Hey Snap......

Does a Snapasaurus with a Biplane make you even MORE BadAss because there are two sets of wings?

Hi Mike,
Have you given any thought to how you are going to cool the 4 cylinders yet ?
I am running the same engine in my 50% Pitts Python and keep changing the baffling to try to make it run cooler.
I have split the engine in half with a baffle on the centerline of the engine.
Walt has sent me pictures of the baffling on the DA-200 4 cylinder build that he is doing. I tried to copy his baffles but it's still running hot.
The problem I'm having now is because the fins on the head run front to back not vertical, therefore forcing the air from the top half of the engine down past the baffle to the bottom side of the baffle doesn't cool the heads.
I'm trying to come up with a way to cool the heads seperated from the cylinders.
My best solution so far is to put a 3W-275 twin in it, but I love the sound and smoothness of the 4 cylinder.
Have you come up with any ideas yet.
The build looks great.
Thanks, Bob Trueworthy

Yes.... I know my dad has been talking about making the baffles and how he is going to do it. I believe he will make them from aluminum but he will have to jump in here with details.......

Hey Mike,
you have a very good taste if it comes to planes
The 50% Christen Eagle on is indeed an Exclusive Modellbau kit. We didn't build is though, it was bought 2nd hand. It has a KING 200 on it. The engine is fine, but is not enough for hovering, it will hang it on the prop, but no pull out . It's still a very nice plane to fly and an eyecatcher on shows! I love it!
There are some pics on http://www.harofly.be -> pictures -> 2009 DiestModelClub and 2009 Int. Luftzirkus.
I think you made a good engine choice with the 3W 212 b4. We have a 3W 112 b4 in a C-ARF extra and it's awesome . You can find some pics of how to baffle on the 3W-site -> engine installation http://www.3w-modellmotoren.com/engl...ellmotoren.htm
If you have any questions, or if you want some detailed pics, just ask!

Hi Mike,
Here are a couple of pics. with both top & bottom cowl halves removed.
The top of the baffle tappers down at the back forcing the air down & around the back cylinders (I hope).
3W also recommends the exit area to be (4) times the inlet area, hard to do. I chopped the bottom of my cowl open as much as I could.
What I want to do now is to isolate the cylinder heads from the cylinders to force air past them.
The 2nd. pic. is looking up at the bottom of the baffle.
I painted it flat black which makes it hard to see.

Thanks Gaaaz! This is great info..... We will definitley use your help. I notice your Eagle has the feather decal set on the bottom of the wings and tail, we would like to have the feather graphics on the bottom of ours as well, the Graphic kit we bought does not include any for the bottom. Do you know if just the bottom set is available?

Thanks again.

Here we started to fit the Canopy so it will open to the right on hinges, Also the Rudder servo tray was built from aircraft lite plywood then covered in CarbonFiber, it will fit Three servos.

Bob,
Is this a picture of the 3W four Cylinder? Or the DA 200? If it is a 3W, I notice there is what looks like a DA Ignition on the Hub. I have a few 3W's myself with DA Ignitions and Know timing is very important or it is possible the engine could run Hot/Rough or not at all. I assume the needle settings are correct......With that said, if the timing is good and she is still getting hot. I would look at my Prop size, maybe it is too big or too much pitch making the engine work harder. I spoke to my dad about the Baffles and he will post his thoughts on his design in a few. Have you ever thought about drilling holes in the Cooling fins vertically for air get pushed through?

No, i don't. But i'm meeting the previous owner at an airshow in France this weekend, so i can ask him. Our Eagle was covered with oratex and the scheme was sprayed on using the RAL-colors of the real N41ET-eagle. That's a lot of work with so many colors
