Default Tank's 3DH 89" Slick thread w/ video!

Hey fellas!

Picked up an 89", 50cc Slick from Ben at 3D Hobby Shop back at the Toledo show. I finally finished off some long term projects I was working on, and was able to get this one togethor! All in all, I had it done in about15 hours, and that included some minor modifications to install an MTW RE2 tuned pipe. All I can say about this airplane is.... WOW. Unbelieveable flight envelope. This airframe is capable of anything out there, and will hang in the 3D realm with ANYTHING out there.

I outfitted mine with:

DA 50R with MTW RE2 Tuned Pipe/wrap-around header
Futaba 6014 2.4 RX
Futaba 9156 servos all the way around.
Futaba 9206 on the throttle.
Fromeco 5200 + Reg for RX power.
4.8/1500Mah Nimh for ignition
100% All stock hardware.
Futaba servo arms

Mods were easy for the tuned pipe. I simply knocked out the back of the pipe tunnel, mounted one of my MTW pipe mounts from DA directly to the supplied can-mount, and mounted a second MTW pipe mount to the bulkhead at the leading edge of the turtle deck. 3DH provides an access hatch just behind the gear to get to the pipe mounts that also has pre-cut, but covered cooling vents. I didnt use the cooling events in my application, as I opened to vents further back by the turtle deck to allow proper cooling of the tuned pipe, as well as ensure proper flow through the fuse. I did install an air-dam at the front of the turtle deck to ensure air passing through the fuse was forced out the exit that I created, as I did not extend the pipe tunnel to enclose the RE2 Pipe. Only other modification I made was to raise the rudder servo up slightly, as to give it adequate clearance from the tuned pipe and the heat it emits. Other than that, everything was 100% factory setup, with factory hardware. The Slick is a BIG 50cc Airplane, and the DA50R with RE2 tuned pipe has phenomenal power and really made the DA50 come to life with the Menz 23x8 prop! The overall combination resulted in a very light setup on this aircraft. As you can see in the video, it floats like a feather.

VIDEO!
This version has a music overlay, I will also post a version w/o music for those that like engine noise...

Nice flying Tank; did you have to adjust the length of the header at all in your set up. That DA sounds less peaky then some I have heard?

Tom

Nope, I am running the factory header length. I did take the time though to make sure I had max resolution on my throttle, and that mid point on the stick equates to mid point on the butterfly position. I have found that some times, on some guys setups, that they either seem "peaky" or "pipey" or have holes in the throttle, based on the linkage setup and resolution. I don't run any curves, and I feel that I can do so by taking the time to get the linkage perfect, without having uneven ATVs in the radio.
