Hi, im new here, but I'm in RC 8 years now and i can fly. I have never had a big plane, but now the time has come for a 30% scale plane. I don't know which plane to chose, extra 300 or yak 54. Please tell me your opinions and which one is better for 3D. And which yak's and extra's are best on market. I've searched on the forum, but I can't find comparisons which manufacturer is the best in extra's and yak's Thx

Welcome! Getting into giant scale is very exciting, and you'll love the way the bigger planes fly! As far as Extra 300 vs. Yak-54, it's mostly personal preference, but there are some differences. The Extra will be slightly better in IMAC and will be a little smoother, while the Yaks tend to be a tad better for 3D. They will both fly 3D and IMAC very well, these are just small defferences. As far as the company, there are many good ones out there, and it's hard to find a bad one. Each company has it's strong points, but in my opinion, you won't find a better flying plane than the Extreme Flight Yak-54 and Extra 300. I have had and flown many of their planes, and the quality, and flight performance is by far the best that I've experienced! I am currently flying their 88" Extra 300, and love it! For 3D, it is extremely smooth, and very locked in. In IMAC and all types of precision, it is extremely precise, and feels great all around. Everyone has their own opinion, but for my style, this plane is certainly the best on the market! Here's a video of me flying mine in the Pacific Coast freestyle Championships: http://www.flyinggiants.com/gallery/...ser=18976&sl=d I can't say enough about the plane, and their Yak is excelent as well. I highly recomend both of them! ---> www.extremeflightrc.com <---

I would also consider the AeroWorks 50cc Extra 300, 3D Hobby Shop Extra 300SHP or 3DHS AJ Slick. The AeroWorks plane are very well made planes that are super easy to assemble and tough. The 3DHS planes will build a bit lighter and it will be hard to find anything that will 3D better in that size. They are also amazingly smooth for IMAC. They will be a bit less durable than the AeroWorks planes in a crash, but they also come with carbon gear and tubes that you will pay extra for from a lot of manufacturers. 3DHS's customer support is legendary and AeroWorks is good as well. There are LOTS of good choices out there. Do a search of the forums on anything that you will buy, check the reviews and watch the videos. Last edited by qmulus; 09-01-2009 at 09:32 PM. I also recommend Pilot RC. Excellent customer service and the quality of the planes are awesome! I picked up the 30% Extra 300 Combo with DLE 55, header, and cannister. They also come with alot of carbon fiber extra's like wing tubes, landing gear, tail wheel, and spinner!

I have the Extream Flight extra which is my frist 30% plane. I'm really happy with it. Plane came packaged well and was very complete. Plane comes with carbon tubes for wings and stab, it also has wing bags, pilot and good hardware. I was stunned at how well the plane flew the frist time, just a touch of down trim. Loops, slow rolls and point rolls are straight as an arrow. Locks into 3D solid and has no bad habbits. Plane lands as easy as a trainer.

You will hear 100 different recommendations from 100 different people. Take it all with a grain of salt. Read through the threads, watch as many videos as you can, and check out the used planes for sale. Pay particular attention to the planes you DON'T see for sale, if that makes sense. My personal recommendation? Don't start with the H9 27% Extra 260. I'm not saying its a bad flying plane, its just a little lacking in the wing area department for a 50cc. Mine flies good, but it doesn't fly as good as i would like it to when it comes time to trying some 3D. Its fun to fly, very precise, and looks nice, and is pretty durable, but get as much wing as you can for 3D purposes. I'm leaning towards the PAU Sukhoi for my replacement. There's my 2 cents, take some salt with it.

Thank you guys for helping. My first choice was actually hangar 9 carden yak 54, but now I'm thinking about ef extra. Problem is that the extra is out of stock in ef, and i don't know where to buy it.

Here is where to get the EF extra $714.00 to your door. I am also looking for a 50cc plane and will be getting a PAU Extra300sp. I narrowed the extras down to the EF, Pilot, 3d Hobbyshop and the PAU extra. All are great planes and all fly extremely well. What it came down to believe it or not is the color scheme... Wife likes the blue and yellow on the PAU and she is paying for the bird .. Seriously, if one were a lot better than another I would have gone that way. I have seen the Extreme flight and own one of their 74" yak and it is the best flying plane I have in the air. Very well built. I saw the Carden yak this weekend and it is HUGE! Good luck with your choice. The link below is were I was going to get the EF Extra, If you follow through to the buy stage you will get the final price.http://www.espritmodel.com/index.asp...OD&ProdID=7672 Jeff Last edited by maineflyer; 09-02-2009 at 05:15 AM. |
