Does anybody have this combo? The EF Yak's will not be in til November so I have some time to research. I still may go with the DA-50 with KS1060's but the BME 58 puts out 1hp more and less weight then the DA50. Any special considerations when using the BME 58 with EF Yak? Will the motor still fit inside cowl? Thoughts and comments appreciated. Thanks, TJ |

KrayzC has the EF Yak with BME 58. Lots of posts on it. He's run it mostly with the ES composite pipe and is currently running it with my wraparound pitts muffler since the header to the ES pipe broke recently. Yes, it fits with tons of room and flies extremely well. He is travelling for the next week or 2, so I'm not sure if he has internet access, but you might try to PM him if you have specific questions. You can see photos of his plane in various BME 58l threads BME-58 I got my eye on that baby! BME 58 - what airframe and what exhaust?

A friend of mine had this combination on his plane this year. The 58 was really powerfull when it ran... After 3 flights the piston fried on it, he sent it back and they replaced it. just last week he was flying it on his 3d hobby shop plane and the engine actually split down the middle. I think they are going to refund his money this time. he has had nothing but problems with the 58.

I have the EF Yak with the BME 58 and it is an awesome combo. I was afraid I would have balance issues but I did not. Everything fits inside the cowl except the stock muffler down pipe. My engine has ran perfect from the start and it has great power. I would certainly recommend this combo.

Yep, he is rite about the BME 58 i had my share of trouble with it.The first problem came at 1.5 gals. of bellray at 50:1,the rings broke.Sent it to Tom at BME and he repaired it at no charge. Then after 2 gals. of pennzoil at 32:1 the cylinder spilt at the bottom where it bolts to the case, and Tom still has the engine today so i can't say any more about it. Don't let this scare you away from the BME 58,i think i just got a bad one,i don't hear any other bad reports about this engine. Also i was getting 7440 on a vess 23-a just a screaming engine!(maybe that's why it blew)? The 58 and the EF Yak is a great combo, mine came in at under 17lbs.with the stock pitts muffler and everthing mounted on the engine box to ballance at the rear of the CG,flew great there. |

The original BME 58's had too thin of a back plate on the case which caused problems, that since has been fix from what I have been told. To answer your question. I own that plane and have run a DA-50, G62-lite, and a BME 58 on it. I have run all on both stock mufflers and tuned pipes, three different tuned pipes on each to boot. So I have a little experience ![]() I now only run the 58 in my yak. The plane flies best with this light 58 and has the most power. The only engine with more power was the g62 lite on a mac's open pipe, but the wing load was heavier than I cared for, didn't fly as nice. I have about 25+ gallons through my 58, it has had the snot beaten out of it since day one. To date it has taken all the abuse and just keeps loving it. This is my favorite 50'cc class engine, but I have not tried the DL55 yet. Last edited by RTK; 10-02-2009 at 09:00 PM. |

Yep i did notice the heat on the 58 was hotter than my other 50's.when i put the 58 in the 3d Hobbyshop Extra i didn't install the louvered plate for the canister tunnel, i just left a big opening on the bottom of fuse and made sure all of the engine cylinder was expose to the air. hope i get the engine back from BME in time to break the engine in for the third time this summer,my fling day's left are numbered here in ohio. |
