Hi everyone. This is actually my first post. I hate to start asking for help already, but I figured someone here might have some knowledge about what I am looking for. What I want are plans for a Pitts S2B or S2C that I can scratch build. At least 100 inch wingspan preferably 120 inches. Basically about 40% to 50%. I have found it very difficult to locate any kits of these models. DA imports the Exclusiv Modellbau Challenger, which I don't like, and the S1, which has the style and size I am looking for but I want the 2 place version. Besides, they are way out of my price range anyway. We can scratch build for a fraction of the cost. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you! |

Thanks guys. I have seen the model 12 and will probably get one sooner or later but my heart is set on the traditional styling of the S2's. And scratch building it will save me hundreds. But keep the info coming. Thanks!

Check around for a set of Bob Dively kits plans . You might be able to locate these plans and blow them up for the size you want. I believe his was around 33%.

Hey, Look around there were some 3rd scale plans out there in the late 80's and early 90's by Andy Sheeber. I think he has past away. Bob Dively's 1/3 scale is the same model but I am not sure if you can scratch build from his plans. I think that the Pitts S2-A would be a great model at 1/2 scale. I have built the 1/3 scale and it flys great. Good luck!!! Last edited by flyingfarmist; 04-12-2008 at 02:22 PM. |

Your best bet is the Andy Sheeber Plans or Look at the Hostetler S 11-1 and modify with the round wings.. Id say the bigggest problem will be scratching a cowl..which for a builder would not be too much trouble... Might get on the IMAA web site and post for some help getting older plans...Lots of scrtch guys there....Welcome to FG and GOOD LUCK

My son bought one of the 25% S2Bs from Cermark. Beautiful plane!!! A 50% would be beyond awesome!!

Wow, I can't believe this thread has been resurrected! Believe it or not I am still looking but finances are tight now due to some poor career choices but hopefully soon I can find the right 1/2 scale Pitts to attempt. As far as the Andy Sheeber Pitts, that is exactly the style I am looking for, as I actually had 1 of his 1/3 scale S2B's that my grandfather had scratch built. It was no doubt beautiful but ended up way too heavy. I had it back in the mid 90s and first tried powering it with a G62 but performance was unacceptable. I then got a Q100 which was better but still lacking. The engine never did run reliably and quit on me in a bad spot and due to the weight of the aircraft it came down like a rock short of the field. Mr. Sheeber's plans were from back in the late 70s or early 80s and actually had a Fox .76 with a gear reduction powering it depicted on the plans. I can't believe that would actually even get it off the ground. Any way thanks for the leads. |
