I got the SWB arms in today.. a perfect fit for the slots. The ailerons took about 30 seconds worth of sanding for a good fit on the 5955's, but the elevators took a good bit more time. I guess part of the problem is the tight quarters. Anyway, its done. To reach the screws, I took one of those replaceable screwdriver tips and welded it into a 1/4 inch drive socket about the same size, then used extensions long enough to get outside the wing or stab. Then I took the magnet from one of those extendable handle magnets and put it on the back end of the extensions. That was enough to hold the screw perfectly on the tip until I got it started in the hole. My black paint should be in tomorrow, but I've got to go out of town this weekend, so I won't get the airbrushing done until sometime next week.... |

I still wish they would have cut doors into the bottom of the wings... especially for those folks going with dual servos. You'd still have to reach through the wing with a screwdriver, but at least you'd have closer access for placing the servo in the hole. When I ordered, they did mention that they were offering the planes with "wing pockets"... but the weren't clear as to whether they meant doors cut in the wings, or if they meant a "pocket" cut in the wing so the entire top of the servo would be out of the wing (like on smaller planes)... so I didn't take a gamble. |

I know on the big extra they have servo doors in the wing, they should do it on the edge too - it was a lot of "fun" getting that outboard servo in place.

This is what I did to get around fighting the servo installation in the wings. | ||||||||||||||||||

Yep.. I saw that picture earlier.. If I went with dual servos, I'd probably do the same thing. I may have asked this earlier, but did everyone file surfaces off of the hinge slots or is there enough deflection without it... it looks a lot less than 45 degrees on all the surfaces, but the surfaces are large, so it may not need as much as a smaller plane. |

I had to enlarge all the slot areas because I had very little deflection on the tail surfaces. I also had to trim the ailerons for increased deflection there too.

Ditto, I had to trim them also.

How much deflection are you guys getting on the elevator and rudder.

Yeeeeeee-Haaa I finally got mine fired up this afternoon! I worked on it yesterday and got it to the point where I could start it (just stuck the gas tank in temporarily, etc..) but I couldn'g get it to fire off. I went flying my other planes this morning, then came home to see what was wrong. It wasn't sucking fuel up into the cylinders, so I dripped a little fuel on to the plugs and re-inserted them, it started on the first flip! I still have to get the fuel system permanently done, and still have a little work to do on the cowl, but other than that... its ready to maiden. We're going to Hawaii next Saturday for a week, so it will be at least 2 or 3 weeks before I have a chance to get it in the air... the weather will likely be much colder and windier by then. It was a "winter project", even though its hardly fall yet in Georgia. Looks like its going to weigh in just over 27 pounds with cans and all stock components. I got a CF wing tube from TBM, but it had a slightly smaller diameter than the metal... I need to swap it out. How does 27 pounds compare to others? Last edited by reyn3545; 11-18-2007 at 04:27 PM. |

Well, I said I was going to do a build thread and take some good pictures... . So much for the thread... you guys were a ton of help, and now its just about done (oops.. no pictures). I did take a few photos of the finished product. I still haven't airbrushed the black edges yet... may not. I have the paint, but the longer I wait, the less important it becomes.
