Default CA 38% Extra

I'm looking at purchasing a a CA 38% Extra and I'm looking for some feedback from guys that have built/ flown this airplane to see what kind of mods people are doing and what the final weight will approximately be. Here is what the set up will look like:

10 Hitec 5955's (4 aileron, 2 elevator, 3 rudder, 1 throttle)
Emcoec DPSI RV for power distribution
2 Emcotec 4000 LONGO LIPO batteries for reciever/ servos
1 Fromeco Peerless 4800 pack on ignition (regulator if I don't go 3W)
150cc engine (3W, Evo, ? not sure yet!) on canisters
Rocket City style control horns
CF landing gear and wing tube
R/C Blimp CF tail wheel
No Limitz pilot
HD servo lead extensions w/deans1003
AW 1 1/4" servo arms on ailerons and elevators
H9 Pro Links
Pull-pull set up on rudder
Ultracote covering

Just a start, guys, but let me know what your using in this airplane!!

Kyle is the most entertaining pilot to watch in my opinion. He mixes it up so well. The 38% CA looks great too!

It's a Carden.

Matt, you may want to run 2 servos per elevator. the airplane comes out nose heavy with a DA 150. I ran no counterbalances on mine and initially had blowback issues using JR 8611A and 1.5" servo arms. I ended up with rhe rudder servos in the tail and still had to put 4 oz in the stab tube for an IMAC CG.

I would use stock mufflers. I had the compacts in mine as the regular mufflers would not fit completly in the cowl. I tried JMB cannisters in my first CA. It was a royal PITA and then I couldn't get them to work well enough.

With the stock gear, wing tube, power expander the AUW was 36 even. you should not have to spend the extra money on getting this airplane any lighter, especially if you plan to run a 157. A Comp ARF 3M Extra canopy is just the ticket for this airplane as the stock one looks like crap.

AAWWWWW Well..... people who are s'posed to be "In the Know" told me it was a columbo!!!

But... regardless of what it is... he throws it around nicely.....

I think Kyle and UltimateJ are like the BEST 3D fliers I have seen.....

(Yes.. I have seen Leeseburg, Hyde, McBride, Shulman, QQ, Yuri,....etc...etc fly a freestyle)

(Jeffrey Szuber is bad ass too)....

I too am a recent owner of a Columbo-Anderson Extra!!!!!!!

That is what inspired my wheel pants question... I did get the new cowl... needs another shot of primer and a ring... and the gear need to be reshaped on 1 side.... The fuse looked really clean though.... and the wings seemed OK... a little bit of dinging here and there.....

Has he flown the Votec yet???

Kyle had a 3d video of his Columbo on his website. It was an on board camera and it recorded its own crash. I beleive it was a dead stick during a flat spin.

I flew a CA extra 2 years ago. I still miss that plane. Mine was different then Shawn's. I didn't have a nose wieght problem. Mine was balanced fine with the pull pull rudder. I was running front exit KS pipes with a 50mm drop header. They fit in the plane fine. I was running 4 elevator servos, no counterbalances. I did use flying wires like the kit called for. I also switched the canopy to the aeroworks, personal choice.
