Hi all, I am looking at a carden 30% extra 300. Not sure how old the plane is but it has not flown in at least two years. The airframe is stripped of engine electrics etc.. I was wondering about powerplants. He was flying a zenoah G 62 on it with a modded electronic ignition. What would be some power choices for this plane. I am having trouble finding alot of info on this one. I have seen a couple for sale with 3w70's on them but thats about it.. any insight would be appreciated. thank you david |

It's a good airplane. Some were done with 3D mods- mostly increased elevator area (move the hinge line forward). It would be a great IMAC plane. When they came out (around 10 years ago or so) most were powered with G-62's, Sachs 3.2's or 3W-60's. They fly nicely with these but are probably only competitive up to Sportsman or Intermediate with one of these engines. I remember when guys started putting 3W-70 twins in them and they were considered a very strong combination! If I were doing one today, I'd look at the "old" style ZDZ80. I think it would be ideal for this plane. Weight comparable to a G-62 but more powerful. Other engines I would consider would be something from BME. They used to sell a twin that was, I think, an 80- same physical size and weight as their 100/102 (comparable to ZDZ80/G62). If you were really crazy you could consider one of the light 100's. I would advise extreme throttle control- but the fact is that since this plane was designed there are 80-115cc engines that have been introduced with approximately the same weight as the 60cc engines that were used in this plane ten years ago.
