All of the edges I have flown are like pattern planes in knife edge, if the cg is right. no problem there!!! Tracking through point rolls is effortless.

In the lower classes it really doesn't matter what you fly, as long as it flies straight. The lower classes are all about who can draw the best lines and not which plane will do the best negative 3/4 snaps. He who practices the smartest will win IMAC contests.

extra 260, i have seen several 40% edges fly in unlimited in the nc area. in the right hands it is a great machine. one thing i would definitely suggest is to sharped the leading edge of the wing. you will want to do this on about the last 12-18" of the tip of the wing. basically you want it to look like a piece of triangle stock with just a slight rounding on the tip. this GREATLY helps in spin entry/break. i flew an edge in sportsman and just loved it. to be honest it was one of my favorite planes. hope this helps. toby.... www.silhavyaerosports.net |

wise words from all the guys - the edge is a modern design and flies as good as most and better 3D than most - so go and win as its all in the practice - Adrian

Thanks alot guys. I actually did make the leading edge a little sharper than normal before covering. Does it pull straight up in elevators??? Is there much coupling in KE??? Also the practice is no concern for me because I fly every night at my house. I feel almost like I wont know what to expect when I go to comps because I dont fly at a flying feild or any where near one. I have seen wha tis excpected at the shootout but that is all of my nolige. I will be going during my spring break befor the season starts to practice my imac routines with bill hemple so that will probabley help. Anyways with all of the help I have gotten from you guys it looks like I will be using this plane for the imac season. You have given me great nolige of what is good about an edge but what should I expect to have to practice on more??? I know about the spins but is there any other bad habbits or tendecies I should know about??? Why doesnt it snap as well as most??? Thanks again.

Extra 260, My first 40% was a Carden Edge as well as my second 40%. It will fly Imac Unlimited. Like Toby said you have to get used to it. Spins and rolling circles are the only slight downfall I see. Some days I fly the plane and some days the plane fly me..... You will still like it and fly it well. Pitch coupling on mine is only about 3 % on ailerons as well as Elevator. The Edge has a tendency to be tail heavy because of the tall fin and large Rudder.( 4in. taller than the 40% Extra 260) Do everything you can to keep the tail light so it will track better. |
