I have been flying with my kids for a couple of years now and have been basically doing all the building and repairing myself as my kids are usually to busy studying or playing with the PS2 ! I have two boys ,9 and 11 and both have been very good at saving money....they try to put whatever they can aside and have actually done quite well. A couple of days ago my younger son decided he wanted to by his own H9 Cap 232 ( the Alitalia model ) with his own well earned/saved money so that this one would be his own. Well we just got back and I think hes going to be taking the plane to bed with him this evening. My older son who has been saving and waiting for a loooong time to get a laptop has all of a sudden after todays event decided that the home computer and dads laptop will do......it's time for him to buy a KIT ...ya a KIT so I really need your help on deciding what to get him cause his decision is based on mine and I really want to help him make the right one. I need a good kit that is well cut and easy to put together with excellent overall flying characteristics ( 3D and imac ) ....30 to 35 % . I would consider myself an above average builder and am in the final covering stages of a 38% aircraft however I want it to have sufficient instructions for a beginner to understand ( I will help but to an extent ). He is interested in the Yak or Cap but not an Extra as we already have 3. I would really appreciate your help as to the best choice....I have looked into different brands such as Carden...price is a biiiit steep but hear they are the best, Aerotech ....price seems reasonable but don't really have any real info on the flying characteristics ( don't hear enough about them ), CA...nice but we have them so want to try something different,.Dalton....hear they are great but only have Extras........I don't really know any other brands manufacturing quality kits so all input welcome guys. ps. I need to go easy on my kids pocket......I want him to really grow into this hobby so if there are any special offers out there as well let us know ! Thanks in advance guys. |

I know you said a Yak or a Cap but what about a Jtec Panzl 35% PAK (partially assembled kit) kit. All the foam pieces are already sheeted and basicly you just have to build the fuesalage. I've built a Carden and this seems a whole lot eaiser not having to sheet the foam. I have not flown the Panzl but saw it in action at a EAC flyin and it looked like it was a good flyer. Just a thought Sam |

If he will be primarily be building the kit then even though you have 3 extras I would get a CA models extra. I say this because it is another pak. It has all the foam sheeted and the turtle deck is done which is pretty difficult for me. It also has all of the cut lines shown which is another big advantage. All of the wood is laser cut and also CA makes good kits. But I think it is more important that your son likes the plane because if he doesnt love it then it is hard to continue the hard work to complete a kit.

SLC, I have looked at the panzl and think its a very good option but I really would leave the extra as a last resort. extra260, I guess I forgot to mention that two of the Extra's we have are CA , both the 31 and the 38% that I'm finishing off. I have been thinking that if I could get him a nice 50cc kit that is easy to build that would probably be a better starting point than the 35%. I have looked at the Carden build and compared to the CA or the Dalton they are hell to build , so that pretty much rules out the Carden ! Thanks for the help guys but I really need more of you to chime in....there must be a good 50 cc kit out there !!! |

did you look at the carden cuda? Its a 50cc kit, but is also 600 clams. If this is to much money, look at these-http://aero-works.net/store/searchresult.aspx?CategoryID=16 Look at the first two. They fly great. A D.A. 50R will pull both the edge 28% and the 31% easly. D.A. will hover the 31% just a tad over half throttle. Great flying planes, take a look at the videos, manuels, ect that the site has. |

The Panzl flys AMAZINGLY well. And the PAK is very nice for the price and the quality. Tank is flying one that JeeUm built. JeeUm and I both have Panzl's.... great plane!
