Looking for some of the pics of the Daltons (or other planes) that have the elevators and rudders with lightening holes in them prior to covering. Need to see a few patterns for a project.

sweetpea, The tail surfaces look good, but how did you cut the holes? What did you use, tool wise ? Thanks

Here's a picture of my Dalton's lightened rudder. Stan, the builder of these three Daltons as well as Sweatpea's airplane, uses a spindle sander. He make cardboard cutout templates so each side is the same for the stabs, or any surface for that matter. He then marks each out with a pencil and uses a spindle sander, while the surface is still attached to the shuck (bed) for a straight vertical cut. However, he does reinforce all the trailing edges with carbon fiber about 3/4" wide on both sides of the trailing surfaces while vacuum bagging the sheeting. You'll notice a stack of elevators in the bottom left side of the picture. Dalton Lightened Rudder.jpg |
