I use single 3/8-24 prop bolts on my conversions...My prop bolts don't shear, and If they DID slip from being too loose, they won't come off..The key word here is TIGHT.....As tight as you can get it with an 8 or 10 inch socket handle.....And no, the hub won't strip...It's made from 2024 aluminum...
I will figure out a way to make a single bolt conversion available, since I will be doing the service work for Larry.....

Ralph, I was talking about the prop slipping. A buddie of mine with a "B" engine could not get his to stop turning, the prop was always in a different clock position. It made starting a pain. He had it so tite it crushed the prop and it still slipped. I can see that won't be the case with the MT-57. Ralph, have you run this motor yet? What is your opinion about the power as compared to other engines in it's class, vibration level, transition, and workmanship. If your doing the service work, I'll buy the engine for sure.

The best setup is a single bolt in the center holding the prop on, 2 smaller flatheads bolting the spinner backplate to the hub, and 2 more all the way through the prop and spinner backplate into the hub..
Nothing slips that way....
I'm waiting for Larry to send me a 57 to check out and run as hard as possible..If there are any issues they WILL be addressed...Tomy is eager to make this the best engine possible...We're already looking at using a CM6 spark plug to make it a little shorter....I haven't seen the carb insulator block yet, but the MT50 and MT62 use a black plastic material with inserts for the threads.....We will try to get him to use G10...If he can't, Larry and I will....Gonna be fun..

Morning Ralph! Sounds like you've got a handle on this one, as usual. The numbers posted are about what I'm turning with my DL which is good. Haven't looked at the weight or price on this one yet but I'm assuming they are comparable. Also sounds like they may be using Bakelite with the inserts cast into them for the carb block. Stuff works great but definately has a shelf life if subjected to any heat, as I'm sure you know. Melamine phenolic would be awesome there. I'm with you on the prop bolts. I've found that the 6 bolt patterns offer too much opportunity to strip out one. I just wish these guys would discover the 10-32. I know it's only .012" difference but when you measure the thread depth on a bolt that size .012" is a lot. A heli-coiled hub would be really nice. Well good luck with your new engine buddy. Sounds like Tomy may have finally found a winner. Do you happen to know if they are using A390 alloy to cast the cylinders??

The first DL I tested here turned a Xoar 23-8 about 6700 with the factory muffler...
I broke that prop but have a JXF 23-8 to test the MT with..
I don't know what the alloy is, Tomy probably doesn't know either...The MT62 looks very good, if the alloy is the same it will be fine....
Wish Larry would send me the engine...

I wish he would too! I'm dying to see what your test results are.

Should be a killer with a pipe or tuned canister....Check out the G62 results at the top of the page...The MT should outdo those numbers....8400 with a 22A prop..

Thanks Ralph. I am thinking of piping that 62 I sent you. I might want a little more poop from her in my next plane.

I thought that the MT57 was turning a 24-8 in the high 6000 range ? These numbers we're talking here seem to be in line with my DL50. And I expect to reach 7100 minimum on a 23A Vess when I get a chance to work it some.

Looking foward to you getting the engine Ralph. Larry SEND HIM the engine !!
