Default Re: THE NEW MT 57CC ENGINE

Im in agreement with AJT here, some of you guys are obsessed with Ground thrust and rpms. Some even feel sure that if Ralph dont talk, the engine must be naff.Who cares about all of this waffle, just go fly the damned thing. Both my 57s are a joy to use and haul both my 17.5lb yaks around with ease and have bags more left in reserve. For those of of you who aint gonna buy 1,sell them through your shops to others.YOUR LOSS.

Enough chitter chatter on bench running, ive put put a video up at the baggining of this thread, lets see some from the USA and get a bit more positivty back into the thread, rather than starting to talk the engine down.

Lets just remember this is a new company whos given us a new engine thats 7cc bigger than the DA,only weighs 80grammes more than the DA,cost alot less than a DA and isnt a blatent ripp off of a DA,like the DL.All flight tests have prooved shes a strong contender to hold her own in the 50cc market and to date my 1st one.The first in the world to see action in an airframe is still goin strong with nearly 8gallons through her

Dont want 1,as i said your loss, and no,im not on Tommys payroll or sponsered by him

The Vess 22A thrust reading doesn't make sense to me, at that rpm before I pretty sure the thrust was higher. I broke my 23A Vess so I used my Xoar 23A. I flew with the Vess 22A, it makes the plane loud and it really unloads in the air. The Xoar 23A on the other hand reads low on the ground, but really comes alive in the air, I think the static rpm is just below the good spot on the power-band, in the air it unloads into the sweet spot in the power-band and really flys nicely. The NX 24x8 is one of my reference test props so I won't use it to fly, but I'll have to get some big props like that to try in the air.
I think you're absolutely right about the thrust issue Rich. Sorry to hear you broke your 23A. They can be spendy. I've always taken a few minutes to measure my static thrust because a lot of folks base the RPM versus thrust issue on which props to buy and which engines to buy. The only thing it is really good for is hovering. Knowing your thrust to weight ratio comes in real handy when pulling out of a hover. It's also an indicator of whether a prop is over-loading an engine.

Closetguy, I believe you are right buddy. I don't think Vess makes a 24" prop now that I think of it. My bad.

Well said Joe!! Forgot to mention the can I used was for a DA-50 MTW-TD-75 with a stock length DA-50 header. Fits in the DIRTRICK 260 with no mods and balance is not an issue. Super quite with the 23/8 Xoar prop. Lots of pull, really strong up lines. At 16.5lbs the motor doesn't labor. The wing loading is VERY lite. I couldn't ask for anything better!! It well exceeded my expectations. Your right just go out and fly the crap out of it... For the last couple of years I've been flying 35% and up. This is the first 30% airframe/MT57 that really does fly like my larger aircraft. You can bet every time I go out for the day this combo will go with me along with my big stuff. VERY glad I went for it. (not sponsored) or given any favors.

Using same as you mate,MTW and Stock DA header(filed out a bit). Its a good combo and works well.

Started usin the KS 1060 pipe on the other 57 with a 11 1/2" header.Very nice as well and real nice sound to it

Sorry no video this weekend as the winds were 30knots.I did fly 2day but no camera .DOH

AJT,do you have any pics of the 260,as ive been kinda intrested in 1 here in the UK,but as of yet none of my mates have bought one

Why don't you just pretend Ralph is not involved for the time being and do your own testing? I'm sure he'll get around to it.

Well said Tom. But for the record Ralph is not a volunteer. Ralph is my friend but he is also on the payroll. Whether he writes a review or not is not going to change anything. The engine will stand on its own merits, good or bad. Let the people that have paid the money to ride be the judge.

Tom, I hope this post finds you in good health and on the mend. You dodged a bullet. A good friend of mine almost died from the same thing. But like my MOM always said "only the good die young" HA ! HA !

Joe
I'll try to get some photo's posted this week. It's a sweet kit I will do business with DIETRICK again. Been looking at his slick 540!!! 40%er. Even with all the larger airplanes the 30% fills a void for me. Thought about a pipe but thats a whole new world for me. Maybe next time.
(Keep well and fly hard)

Then I'll live forever. I'm coming out of it, another week or so and I can go flying again.

I know it's dangerous, my grandfather died from appendicitis. Of course that was in 1914, medical care has improved just a bit since then.

I tried to fly the engine today but I ran into some problems. I am getting radio interference from somewhere. I was using a noon-resistor type plug which I think may have caused the glitching. It was either that or a metal clevis on my throttle arm but the metal clevis is on a nyrod. Will this still cause intereference? Or do you all think it was because I had the wrong plug in? Any other ideas? And yes my ignition and battery and far from anything else.

Sounds like the clevis may be your problem.Doesnt matter if its metal, but on a nylon rod!Youve still got 2 pieces of metal,1 clevis and 1 throttle arm vibratiing.

I know u said the ignition and batt are far from anything else.Does this include the rx flight batterys?cos if there close to each others they will chatter and cause the sort of interference your describing

Flight battery is over 12 inches from ignition/ignition battery. i will go ahead and swap out the metal clevis and give it a go.

Make sure the cap is fully engaged on the plug that the entire hex of the plug is covered. Make sure not to twist the cap as you are putting it on as you will make the cap leak fire. Push straight up with the palm of your hand. I have had people with this problem before and that cured it.

If you're running a non-resistor plug it can cause interference big time. Metal to metal is never good. I actually use a steel 4-40 all thread rod for the throttle with ball swivels on both ends which works great but as you already have the nyrod in place just change the clevis.
