I really do not believe the Chinese are going to put me out of business. It may just be time for me to retire. If I done that look at all the fun I would be missing .I retired once and did not like that much. I have no real relationship with the Chainsaw engine builders ,most of them have bailed out oweing me money one for $15000. I no this was my fault but I thought I was being the good guy. Some that do not owe me money are Al Willert A&M,BME,Walker Manchine ,Quadra,US Engines.Wolf Engines plus a few more.Brillelli does NOT owe me money. The Ignition business has been good to me and my family 28 years.I guess I will stay around just to see what happens next. BCCHI I am tired of this game already Im gone.I will not spell check either.I cannot believe I wasted time doing this.

I was under the illusion that this was a discussion thread on the MT 57 engine..... I have one. I haven't had the opportunity to install it in a plane yet and have only had minimal run time on it so far. The improvements on the engine (timing and reeds) are a part of an improvement process that has occured on numerous brands of engines. Those of us that have been in the hobby for 40+ years remember when very few engines would perform well without modifications. This "continous improvement" is part of the hobby. You share experience, modify and experiment and the whole hobby grows because of that effort. New products are developed in response to those efforts and we all benefit......even those that sit back and criticize. Schrader

Locutus, I have the MT-57...I haven't even had a chance to run it yet (life gets in the way) so I can't tell you any more than what has already been written in these forums. The DL-50 has a pretty good track record and a large sample base is in use, so the information should have averaged out enough so there is a true indication of the performance and reliablilty of the engine. The MT-57 is still a "young" engine and time will tell on both the performance and reliability. Inital reports indicate that the MT-57 will slightly outperform the DL-50....there is no substitute for cubic inches.....as the saying goes.... I believe the difference will not be substantial. My reason for choosing the MT-57 was that it was going into a large biplane and it was a toss up between the DL-50, modified G-62 and the MT-57. The 62 and 57 seem to handle the larger props a little better and the G-62 seems to like a higher rpm range than the MT-57. The biplane has a large cowl, so I'll need a larger prop at lower rpm so I chose the MT-57......and it was less expensive than the modified G-62. Any of the 50 to 60 class engines will fly your plane....you won't be limited by "prop disk area" as I was, so look at your all up weight vs static thrust....not rpm, if the majority of your flying will be 3D. If your looking at IMAC you'll have to also consider "prop pitch speed" (gets more complicated) to keep the speed of the plane up for proper tracking. The extreme flight planes are light weight, so in your case, I'd problably go with the DL-50 and keep it light.... IMHO. Schrader Last edited by schrader; 08-30-2008 at 02:19 AM. Reason: typo error |
