Default So R you happy Great Planes bought out these two?

Did you see in Model Aviation ( Nov. 07 pg. 12) where Great Planes has acquired Carl Goldberg and Lanier RC as their own? Ain't that just freak'in great guys??
Sorry so negative but maybe you guys can help me turn around ( for the moment) by offering some positive perspective with these even "greater planes" acquisitions?

Anything you don't like about Great Planes, will now morph into those two company lines - if they survive at all. I'm convinced, bigger - ain't always better - it's sometimes will just reduce the creative choice for the modeler. Example: The unique widgets that a smaller company makes (or imports) and sells a few of are now at risk. When a less than stellar 'seller' is examined under the "BIG GUY's" microscope and deemed - why bother with this low seller item(s) it most often becomes obsolete.

What ever made these companies product lines different from GP - will EVENTUALLY be homonigized into Great-plane style mediocrity. To that I say:
"Great".
And then too - maybe I"M morphing into a negative old FART !?

As I posted elsewhere- on this board:
DAVE PLATT LAW #7."Live by the principle of scarfology. Things disappear from the marketplace, so scarf them up...:

Guys, READ & HEED!

Here is their link to the news bulletin:

Sounds like you are talking it personally. You don't believe that this could be a good thing as GP has deeper pockets for new product releases, support etc?

From my own experience, Great Planes immediately corrected a service issue that I had with a Goldberg plane that I bought in January. Goldberg was non responsive. Since my purchase was before GP purchased Goldberg, they had no obligation to correct the problem. But they did anyway. So for me, I am happy with the purchase.

I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Goldberg. The first plane I built and flew was a Eagle 63 with a K&B 40.

I'm sure I didn't just read this, I couldn't have...

JB,

Do you actually believe that a company as large and dedicated to the hobby as Great Planes would be a detriment to Carl Goldberg and Lanier? The only way you could make a statement like that is to cite an instance that Great Planes has purchased a company and led that company down a self-destructive path. You may know of such an instance, however, I have yet to hear of one.

Personally, I've yet to have an unresolved issue with any of the major companies, in any facet of he hobby...man...I hope I didn't just jinx myself

I review quite a few airplanes and I can tell you that Great Planes (and H9 to be fair) both have outstanding quality. Each is a bit different and excels at some things the other doesn't.

I can also tell you that I have a long standing relationship with Carl Goldberg products that began 30 years ago when I learned to fly a Skylane with an os.10 on it... throttle, rudder, elevator only.

Since that time, I have always had an affinity towards CG products.
HOWEVER, I have seen their quality dip recently and I say so in my product reviews.
I am not saying they are bad or any such thing, but I am saying that being brought under the wing of Great Planes is likely good for the company.

So from my view, I will wait and see... with optimism.

I'm tending to agree here. I'm not thrilled with Hobbico's latest offerings. If they were to put more effort into new products, than absorbing another company, then they might make more profit....

I don't know. I like my Futaba, but I might switch to JR next time around. Maybe I've been smellin to many chemicals lately.....

Thats a pretty bold statement to make from someone who has plastic spinners on his car. Now who has made a poor judgement call?

Fiddy, I hope you know I'm just ribbin' ya.

I honestly think that this is a good move.

Being out of the hobby for a number of years, last year, was my 1st trip back to Toledo in about 7 years. It was interesting to see how the hobby had changed and what was still the same. Futaba, Great Planes, Horizon's booths still had a buzz, were packed and still had innovations coming out, gone where Byron Originals and a few others I always visited, new companies that were buzzing were AeroWorks, Da, etc. When I got back to the hotel my wife asked me what I thought. I told her about the AW Yak I bought, the DA50 etc., but I told her it was a little sad to walk by the Goldberg display. Each time I went by it, about 20 times over the 2 days, there was either no one talking to the reps or 1 or 2. I told here unless they changed something they would be gone from the scene in a short time. So being bought out may have been their only means of survival. Just an observation.

George,

I think this whole issue is getting shot down for the most part, most of us are very happy that Great Planes has seen fit to get involved with these companies. I'm sure if you had really been on that other site, there would have a whole lot of major trash talkin', not the little bit you've seen here.
