I think it's just to give a quick blast of air to the control surfaces to help "jump" the plane back into position. I can hover some, but leave the throttle constant and just use it to vary altitude. Maybe I should work on blippin the engine some?

Eddie, when hovering your throttle is doing two things, one being to maintain/vary altitude, the other is to help with control and attitude. RappyMan is absolutely right, you need to use the throttle in short burst to get enough airflow over your control surfaces so that they are responsive, and the burst has to be controlled enough so that you dont climb out. After some practise, the throttle stick becomes automatic, but if your like me, thats a lot of practise!!!! Depending on the plane, you may need throttle burst with every control input, or only with one surface like rudder. I practised this by forcing myself to apply throttle everytime I feel the plane is unresponsive. And yeah its easier said than done!!! Good luck dude, keep us all posted with your progress |

Eddie, I am very sorry to say this, but if QQ flies that thing, and only gives it half his usual skill, you are going to be in deep doo-doo!!!!!!! The order list will probably keep you busy well into the next millenium when you have a pilot of his calibre showing what its capable of!! |

| Going flying in the morning... Have done some major improvements.. In the first pic The big prop and holder are the old design. The new smaller design is lighter And has far less drag on the bearings, so now at 7000 RPMs you can change the pitch %1 at a time, and you can hear a very slight RPM change… Also time from full forward to full reverse is so fast the engine does not spool up.. (2 x 5955s) witch are only moving +- %20 of there travel. Will post video… I know… I know…. If anyone is around Baton Rouge… lets go.. Eddie Weeks |

Update... After ~20 flights I am tired of flying this thing.... I have been trying to break it but I can't.. Here is what it can do... 35 lbs of forward thrust... ~24 lbs of reverse... At any power setting the pitch can be changed from full forward to full rev fast enough so there is little or no RPM change. I did some verly large loops and reversed the pitch on the down lines. Power was increased to ~%40 and the down line speed decreased to a crawl... Landings can be Very Short. Thanks for your help.. Eddie Weeks Last edited by EddieWeeks; 10-27-2006 at 03:17 PM. |
