I have fitted an O.S. 160 - Not yet finished the build yet though. Did you have any side or down thrust? Off topic but I jst cant find anyone with this plane. Would like to know how it flys and if there are any videos of it. |

I have seen the plane fly with an OS 160 and it really seems to be one of the best choices for reliability lite weight and cost. if you really want a 50cc gasser there are alot of nice planes out there but the goldberg edge 540 is not one of them.

The BCMA 40cc (actually 43cc) with an APC prop would be good in that plane.

I am new to this too. But going off my edge with a 70" wing with ROTO 25. I would put the ROTO 35 v2. If you put in a glow one, it's going to go though your fuel. Go to the web cite to compare the weight. to the one your interested in.

more than anything I would point out the cost of fuel... also, the fact that you have the plane, not the engine yet- probably still waiting on electronics too as you stated this was the first gasser, ie: plane of this size..... IMHO I would cut 'ye olde losses, and get into a different airframe, and GET WHAT YOU WANT!! besides, how much slime do you guys think that thing would make after a full day of flying?? Think about it- When I go out on sunday, I am usually there for 4 hours, and burn right around a gallon to as much as 1 3/4 gal. so that is like 20 to 40 bucks just in fuel for a day, not to mention the cost of getting there and back, and hell, while we're at it, how much a month will you have to spend in cleaning products and paper towels cleanin' up all that goo? ![]() In all seriousness, I am just ribbing you about a big glow engine... I have to say, that my first gasser has been much more of a pleasure than a pain, and if you aren't in too far to the edge, you may consider selling it, and getting a bit bigger 50cc Edge if that's your choice in planes- **nothing wrong with the Edge 540t at all! have had two, and one of them was the fliton.90 sized that had to be the most neutral, BEST FLYING PLANE I HAVE EVER OWNED!!** just didn't like the color scheme of the 50cc from Wild Hare... ![]() GOOD LUCK!

I had the goldberg extra 77" as my first gasser and I did not know any better and bought a zenoah g45 . It was a pig and had no vertical. Then I put a da 50 in it and that made it much better, hovered, and unlimited vertical but a little on the heavy side. Then I put it into a tree and broke it in half, but anyways it is an in between size really. Its hard to find a good engine combo for this size plane but I would really try the brillelli 46. Its lighter than the da yet very powerful too.IMHO

I just bought the 77 Edge from CG and will use my DL-50 on it. I don't care if it's the lightest kit available and I'm pretty sure the DL will give the plane plenty punch out from hovers. I fly lots so glow is really out of the question. The kit looks really nice and I got it a very discounted price. I just couldn't resist. ![]() quote=robertp17;430822]I had the goldberg extra 77" as my first gasser and I did not know any better and bought a zenoah g45 . It was a pig and had no vertical. [quote=youngflyer;146904]well i would say stick with glow and strongly advise staying away from gas. an o.s 160 will prob. work perfect. you should have gotten a bigger plane for gas. even with a 40cc engine, that limits your option when you want to get a second plane![/quote I think that if you fly very often, gas is the only way to go, provided the plane is of adequate size (70 in and above), besides, once you fly gas you never want to go back to glow... The CG 77 Edge will be terrific with a 1.5 kg DL-50 in the nose. Rated at 5.2 HP, that engine will turn the bird into a total 3D beast. I'm getting one. |

There has to be a suitable gasoline engine for a plane of this size. I'm using a 26cc on my Showtime 90, and it's flying great! It also happens to be my 1st gasser. Try the DA. The specs say to use a Fuji 43...whaaa? The DA 50 is definately lighter than that thing. Last edited by 3Dguy; 04-13-2008 at 11:54 PM. |
