Default opinion on first big gas 3d plane

i havent been flying long and am currently building a sig midstar but want to begin looking into the future of a gas 3d plane. size or design doesent really matter i guess as long as it was fairly big (72"+) or something around that. Im kinda tight on money too thats kinda why i am doing a little research now so i can get my ducks in a row. i would love a comp arf with a DA motor but its out of my league right now and i would get killed if i dumped it especially on its maiden flight. thanks

the hangar 9 extra 260 is supposed to be awsome with any 50 or a mvvs 45

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Shop/ByC...ProdID=HAN2750

any of the wild hare 50CCers

http://wildharerc.com/Products/products.html

the lanier edge yak or extra all 50 or 60cc

http://www.lanierrc.com/lrcprivate/r...edge540arf.htm

thats all i can think of off the top of my head. great planes has some options aswell but they are geared more for glow than gas exept the patty. thats all the entry level gassers anyway if you wanna go bigger there are so many options same with alot of other options in 50CCers.

I will post this because I learned the hard way. If at all possible....I would try to get into a 33% plane. Not to say the 50cc planes don't fly nice, but when you hit the 33% planes.....they fly so much better and I find are more of a joy to fly. Also, be sure to sit down and figure out what it's all going to cost you. Work up a spreadsheet for a complete parts list and make a budget.

Next thing to think about is it's not that much more to do a 33% -vs- a 25% plane. Stay with a big single....which is what I've done....and it really helps keep your cost down. Some say vibration will be a issue, but when they are tuned right....they run very smooth. Also compare the specs, the new ZDZ 80 Super has the gusto or a DA 100 twin, but it costs a heck of a lot less and weighs less also. You don't always have to have the absolute best of everything.....but don't take it to the point that you plane will be dangerous. For instance....I'm using the Hitec 5645 to get my latest project in the air. At a later date in time I would love to replace those with higher end servo's, but they are more than capable of doing the job and doing it well. They run $55 compared to a higher end servo which will run ya $90 or more.

And this final recommendation is use the KISS method. KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID. The most complex setup is not always the best.

H9 Extra 260 (78in), Moki 2.10, hitec 645s ($30 each) all round. Flies great, no KE coupling, pulls out of a hover well, lands real slow. This is my first big power aircraft and it is great! Seriously, add up the costs of this setup (got the Moki with 5 gallons through it for $250 with muffler) compared to a DA50 gas with digital servos, or 33% setup!

Holy Neogenesis!

Your bang on right there!!..then at least when it's time to sell your bird.. you have the motor for what ever it is you want! Neo?..i've read a few of your posts man! your smart!..thats cool i respect that!..i own a composite-arf yak 55 with a BME 110 and it fly's hands down better than my first gasser which was a cap X with a zdz 40! Good experiance but the yak would've made me a better pilot in shorter time than the cap X!

cheers!

hope you find what your looking for!

I agree your setup will fly better than one with a DA50. But if you fly it much....that glow fuel is going to get expensive. Not to mention it's hell to clean up. That's the reason most ofus want to move to gas anyway.
