Well I have seen the Flyin Hawaiian ream his EF YAK with no surprise sweat bursts.
If the problem is inherent in design, you would think it safe to presume all DA50’s would experience it. Rennie- you have any tricks behind that cowl?

So what's the rough estimate set-up with a DA-50?

I got about $1950.

That sounds about right. You could go used though. I bought my yak off of rcu for $1200 RTF

Just for info. have had a couple of DA50s and 3 separate carbs to play with in the first EF 87 Yak. Similar issues re rich runing inverted and changes in running during manoeuvres. Did all the good stuff alrerady mentioned which helped little by little then after getting a gratis replacement carb from DA, 3 days from phone call to doormat in the UK, excellent service. Add to this my buddies carb wehad 3 to play with and two motors, we found that the running changed from one carb to another, no great surprise but did suggest things could be different, then started playing with pop off pressure and was able to improve running to the point where its good in all attitudes. Still can notice its not perfect but about as good as anything else this size, well except for my Brilleli 60 which is seemless!
good article I found after the event which could help with experimenting just be carefull not to get the spring pressure too high as could end up too lean at certain rpm. By the way each carb ended up with slightly different pressures to achieve best performance so its down to trial and error . we had psi from 13 to 27! and the carb needles need adjusting again each time so it can be a bit of a faff on.

good luck
Robin
ps anyone flying an AW 75 extra or yak, need to choose between the two! see how a DA 85 runs inverted!!!!!!!!!1

Hey guys,
The only thing I did was normal tuning with the composite tuned pipe. I did not cut the header pipe, just set high-end, then low-end. One thing I did find was true, that the now & high end needles do effect each other. Use small adjustments, I always use 1/16 to 1/8 turn at a time. Also I used a tach and flew after every adjustment. It took me at least 3-4 tries to get it right. Reliabel low-idle, instant throttle response w/ Vess 23B.

I've had one flame out with my da-50 in my yak. It died comming out of a blender. I think I had the idle set a little too low.

I had a flame out due to low idle once a few years ago. Since then, I am using an idle up mix. I increase the idle by approximately 200 to 300 rpm's. No dead sticks since!
