I'm sure either plane would fly fine. Here are a couple of videos of the 88" EF YAK. First one is mine punching out of a hover, DA-50 on KS 1060 Pipe, 18+lbs. http://www.flyinggiants.com/gallery/...unchingout.wmv Second is Chris Hinson putting a tank full of gas through his. He has the B60 with escomposites pipe. http://www.flyinggiants.com/gallery/...0/EFYak_CH.wmv |

I like the EF better... though I have not flown one. I think the QQ is a darn fine airplane but the quality of the fit and finish is down a little on the QQ in my opinion... my opinion...

Hi Guys - I need a little advice please. I've been in RC for about 7 years but have only flown glow up to this point. I have about 4 different 120 size planes I'm pulling around with anything from a Saito 180 to an OS 160. I decided to to try my first gasser, and so I've decided to go with an Aero-Works 120 QB with a little Evo 26GT in it. My question is - I keep seeing a lot of references to all sorts of 3D planes out there, but very few pilots ever talk about flying or comparing an Aero-Works. Is there a reason? For example, they have a 50 > 60cc 85" Yak that looks good to me. One of the guys I use to fly with when I lived in Ohio had about every AW's plane they produced I think and all of the guys use to swear how good the craftsman ship was, materials used were excellent, and they all flew great. During Toledo I never heard any of the FG crew (or RCU for that matter) even say they saw their booth, much less provide a picture or interview. I know they introduced their new Python while there as well. Don't mean to de-rail this thread, like I said, I want to get into my first YAK gasser, and want to make sure I'm getting something that is equivelant to the rest of the planes out there like the QQ's and EF's. Here is a link to Aero-Works Yak that would be comparable to this threads question - http://www.aero-works.net/store/detail.aspx?ID=254 Thanks GPuttss

AWs are the most complete out of the box which is a big plus. They do tend to come in a little heavier than the others. It's all relative though. What is super light today will be considered overweight in a few years with no regulators, lighter engines and micro receivers etc. Look around, there are threads on AW. Check out Troybuilt models too. They have good descriptions of each manufacturer. Last edited by Edge 540; 04-20-2007 at 09:04 AM. |

Go with QQ. EF is extremly heavy you have to run a tuned pipe. SD is a great plane 87" same weight as QQ 86" but lighter than EF. My budy just built one of the EF. It came in at 19 1/4. thats alot a weight.

everyday3, since you are in Alpharetta and we are located in Cumming, why don't you make the short 10 mile drive up to our shop and we'll go out to the flying field and you can see for yourself how our Yak flies on a DA-50. Shoot, I'll even give you the transmitter and you can show us how its done! Get your friend to bring his and we'll figure out where that extra pound+ is.

The only way I can see getting an EF 88" that heavy is using a ZDZ80 with redundancy on batteries... Mine has the Brillelli 60 and a side dump muffler... Right at 17 lbs... and it has LOTS of power. The DA50 outfitted planes (with stock muffler) are coming in 16.5 and some even less... I have BOTH of these airplanes... something very few can say, so I can tell the original poster that BOTH planes are of the highest quality. I have yet to fly the QQ 86" (very soon) but I have no doubts it will perform very well. I trust QQ and CHris designs and comments... and both of them are very excited to provide these designs as thier very best yet. The EF is larger... in presence and a little more wing area... about 30 sq in. The QQ 86" "in the air box contents" weighs 8.93 lbs The EF 88" "in the air box contents" weighs 10.36 lbs (Both of these weights are without wheels/axles/collars) Both kits have "optional" items you do not have to use... the QQ has SFG's that weigh 4 oz, the EF has spats, fairings and faux louvers/baffle which weigh a little more than 4 oz. So all in all the QQ will build out (with the same loadout) about 1.4 lbs lighter. The QQ cowl is pretty narrow, and fitting a stock muffler/pitts will require a good deal of cowl cutout... the EF has a HUGE 12" cowl and the Brillelli60/DA50 with stock muffler fits entirely in the cowl... NO cutouts necessary. They both offer quality hardware, double truss phenolic horns, etc. The QQ offers a drop-in canister install and the EF allows for a canister or tuned pipe install. I have flown my EF 88" and it's everything I expected and more... a great aircraft. I really didn't find anything in the build I would have changed.... The QQ was even par in quality and building... So, the bottom line... buy what you like... both will perform excellently and give you your money's worth. The first pic is a side by side pic of the two aircraft and the second shows 3 cowls... the EF 74", the QQ 86" and the EF 88"
