I run an open cowl on mine....I believe the story of the 14lb EF 87" Original. I could easily get mine to 14 lobs if I did the gear, and went Lipo. But, I don't think it would balance..not without sticking the motor out farther.

I have 3oz of lead on the box...and it still only weighs 15lb 7oz.

I flew my 88 in calm conditions today, and at 15lb 14oz...maybe now 16lb becaus e of repair, it floats unreal.

And I completed the famed KE Loop that is does at a click or two off idle. Really cool.

I am sure the QQ flies just as good , it all depends on what trips your trigger.

3DKid, that EF 47.5 flies EXACTLY like the 88.5 " . Build it with the exact equipment Chris' flew his with...4S. It rocks.

I flew 4 hard 8 minute flights, and put back 630mah in my TP2100 2S Prolite. I have charged the ignition's TP 1320 yet. Really efficient Fromeco regs...

I built the 85" QQ for a friend. Build quality left much to be desired, but the plane flies awesome! I know two people who have the EF 88" Yak and I've flown it myself. It floated nicely and did not require any mixing during knife edge. Both owners complained about the build quality. A cowl and wing replaced on one. Once the bugs are ironed out it is solid. Vertical upline isn't as fast as the QQ when both are equipped with a DA-50.

Mine has the Brillelli 60 and a side dump muffler... Right at 17 lbs... and it has LOTS of power. The DA50 outfitted planes (with stock muffler) are coming in 16.5 and some even less...
I have BOTH of these airplanes... something very few can say, so I can tell the original poster that BOTH planes are of the highest quality. I have yet to fly the QQ 86" (very soon) but I have no doubts it will perform very well. I trust QQ and CHris designs and comments... and both of them are very excited to provide these designs as thier very best yet.he EF is larger... in presence and a little more wing area... about 30 sq in.The QQ 86" "in the air box contents" weighs 8.93 lbsThe EF 88" "in the air box contents" weighs 10.36 lbs(Both of these weights are without wheels/axles/collars)Both kits have "optional" items you do not have to use... the QQ has SFG's that weigh 4 oz, the EF has spats, fairings and faux louvers/baffle which weigh a little more than 4 oz.
So all in all the QQ will build out (with the same loadout) about 1.4 lbs lighter. The QQ cowl is pretty narrow, and fitting a stock muffler/pitts will require a good deal of cowl cutout... the EF has a HUGE 12" cowl and the Brillelli60/DA50 with stock muffler fits entirely in the cowl... NO cutouts necessary. They both offer quality hardware, double truss phenolic horns, etc.
The QQ offers a drop-in canister install and the EF allows for a canister or tuned pipe install.
I have flown my EF 88" and it's everything I expected and more... a great aircraft. I really didn't find anything in the build I would have changed....The QQ was even par in quality and building...So, the bottom line... buy what you like... both will perform excellently and give you your money's worth. The first pic is a side by side pic of the two aircraft and the second shows 3 cowls... the EF 74", the QQ 86" and the EF 88
"

Thanks for the honest and tireless review Maudib. Pictures too are such a plus in the visual and credibility departments!

FG - I LOVE THIS PLACE!!

My 88" EF weighs just over 17# with DA and Stock muffler. Great plane and first plane I have had that was dead stable in the elevator/harrier attitudes. Still working on minor tweaks and only have 10 flights on it so far. Love it! I think I'll jump up to the 104" when it comes out.

The red Absolut Yak is mine. The black and yellow is Flyin' Hawaaiin at Joe Nall.

Well I have an 85''QQ and I love it, very steady light and forgiving bird, set up DA50 pitts muffler 4 5945 and 1 5995 for rudder. I use it mostly for 3D.
I'm planing to buy now the 86'' version. If I'm gonna do that must be because I sure I wont be disappointed.

Like many have said, you can't go wrong with either one of these planes. I will say this, I watched Rene (The Flyin' Hawaiian) throw his EF Yak around at the Joe Nall like it was a rag doll, man, talk about abuse lol. He was doing things with that plane that I'd be afraid to try with a foamy. I even heard Chris Hinson say Wow! after Rene did some crazy Wall to Torque/Flip/A** over tea kettle thingy. Very impressive.
