Been watching the QQ fly for the past few weekends after ive flown my EF-88". kNIFE EDGE is pretty poor on the qq compared to the 88" Thats why they issued it with a set of sfgs. The EF does K-E loops for breakfast cos of a greater side area.(with no sfgs needed) IF the better of the two was judged on knife edge performance the winner is obvious. EF.

MY QQ 102 yak was better setup for pattern, but the EF was more stable in harriers. To be honest unless you are a great pilot you won't really notice, they are both brilliant planes from some clever designers.

The quality of the EF is much better than my QQ- my QQ yak looked great when it came out of the box, but the cowl and canopy now need constant attention to prevent them cracking up, and paint is starting to flake off the cowl. The foam in the fuz is also starting to crumble away. As a result a 9 month old plane looks more than 2 years old. which is not what you expect for a GDP £ 850 kit. I don't want to slag off QQ planes - maybe mines a one off. But this certainly made my vote a little easier.

The EF 88 just sits there and looks great, and you can tell from the quality of the construction and covering that this thing is going to look great for a really long time. So EF certainly wins for me on quality.

The biggest plus of the EF 88 is that it is nearly the same size as the QQ 102, and really looks it in the air. So your'e getting more model for your money.

The EF yak's cowl, and canopy are pretty well the same size as the 102" QQ yak. see pics attached comparing the cowl size. The EF 88 canopy actually is too big for the 102 yak as you can see!

Check out my picture of my QQ 102 hovering beside the EF 88. For a plane which is nearly half the total cost it's hardly smaller.
Your exactly right, The EF 88 has a 32% fusalage. Strangly enough the wings are only 27.4%.

But a 100% more fun. I have owned both QQ & EF Yaks. Don't get me wrong. The QQ Yak is a great airplane. But the EF Yak is more stable in harriers and elevators. KE is sick yo. Its like the EF Yak flies precision 3D. plus it looks more scale. What I like about it is with a flip of the rate switch you're in precision IMAC.

oh yeah, I vote for Extreme Flight Yak!

Actually the QQ fuse is way undersized compared to scale. The EF yak is far closer to scale. Neither plane is sold as a 100% scale plane anyway. I too have flown both. Both with the same engine. EF wins hands down.

Same here--flew both--no contest to me

I mean really---who cares about being prefect to scale unless your into that kinda thing--and anyone really serious about that stuff isnt gonna buy an arf anyway---none of these arfs are 100% true to scale---some are just closer than others

You can't go wrong with either, just don't get a DA 50 for it

I know what ya mean but my buddies all fly the Ef with Da-50 on carbon tuned pipes with ample ventilation in the cowl and theyve got no probs like i had. If ya try swinging a 24/8 with crap Baffling the ol' Da turns a shocking pink with a maked loss of power. The MVVS 58 pro sport is a ripper for the 88" Anyone else using the MVVS 58 in their EF?

Yeah, every 30% yak I have flown (including my own) that has a DA 50 has never ran right inverted. I had flown one that had a 3W in it and had no problems at all. A friend of mine called DA and they told him to cover up the stand offs so air can't dirrectly hit it. Made sense, but after running it on the ground alot, he takes it up and after one lap around the feild it goes lean and died. The plane stalled trying to turn around and he went to high rates and did a elevator into a bush. Saved the plane, but now he has to call DA again.

In My Opinion...
Nothing assures the perpetuation of bad engineering better than brand loyalty! Don't you agree??

Ford has had it's die hards, Chevy loyalists - well have taken their hits and tossed em back too.

I see it this way- The brand must be getting somethings right if they can sustain a loyal customer base. Agree?

Your bad experiences most likely are the next guys' Puzzler. Their years of successes with the same equipment - will never undo the PainIA exercises YOU had to live through. So blow your steam and move on.
So summing it up -
Why not keep it positive or - keep it real short? I believe keeping it positive - is a Flying Giant's virtue.
Statements like:" just don't get a DA 50 for it" offer very little substance and just upsets the other experience loylaists- = achomplishes nothing constructive but exciting electrons at F.G's website

Again - My opinion - not trying to be the DAD or referee- just telling it as I see it. Hope no offense is taken.

I couldn't agree more! Every time I see a statement like that, whether it be for/against DA, 3W, zdz(etc.) it discredits that person in my mind. In fact, there is a group of folks here on FG that rail against a particular brand. I have come to the point where when they post, I automatically don't believe them. How many folks think like this? Maybe it's just me....
