Default 3d Rookie

Well let me help in adding to this forum. I have been flying 3 years now. Recently discovered 3d this past summer and simply respect the skills required to do it. I picked up a hobby lobby foamie to practice in the local parks and also got rid of RF G3 and purchased aerofly pro. I also moved from a avistar to a cap 232 which I am handling pretty well. It has a 46 size engine and you can't do much with it so I will be upgrading that soon to a saito 72 or 80.

What else can you seasoned pros tell me in order to get up to speed. I recently purchased Chris Maiers DVD for additional help. I am ready to put in the work to do what it takes to become extremly good.

OH yeah - 95% complete on a mini-edge 540 so I am in this for the long haul. Looking to purchase a Giles 202 soon to move up to a bigger ship.

Thats my story

Some people may think this is strange advice, but I think getting a good .46 or larger profile along with your Sim's and electrics is one of the best ways to keep learning and improving your 3D flying. Without a doubt the profiles that I've owned in the past definitley allowed me to learn new manuevers without risking an expensive plane. I learned to hover,TR, and do rolling harrriers with a profile.

You are on the right path! Simulator,PLENTY of airplanes and practice. Nothing beats practice for getting up to speed. I've crashed a thousand airplanes on the sim, push the reset and go at it again!!

I have learned to accept that when you push the envelope in trying to become good you may crash. I have accepted that and I am ready for it. I Will pickup -- rebuild and do it all again.

I did that too...
Great advice... buy a used sim and give it hell. Then get a cheap profile. I teach people how to drive race cars for a living. Its this simple. Try to give me $1000 to make you fast, keep it, and buy 500 gallons of gas! Burn that fuel.

I agree with all of the above. When you move into a little bit larger glow stuff, look into a Funtana 90, Hanger 9 Showtime, or Extreme Flight 68" Yak. All 3 are awsome 3D performers that can be built on a relatively light budget, and they will increase your learning curve exponentially.

Cant beat stick time. Foamys are great and relativly in expensive. I had a break from flying for about 10 years, started flying slope soarers about 2 years ago, then got bitten by the electric 3D bug and bought an E-flite Tribute, then a mont later a Mini Funtana, and then about half a dozen diferent shock flyers, ultimate, and a few other electrics, in the meantime also got bit by the Dynamic Soaring bug. Had a Saito 80, so bought a Funtana 40.
I think it good to have something like the mini Funtana and the Funtana 40, that fly similarly. Cant fly the 40 every day, but you can fly the mini just about any where. My personal set up on those 2 plane are very close with expo and mixing so that both planes have a similar feel when flying.

something like swanys MOJO, or similar would be a good thing to try some new stuff.
Gotta go Huck now

Yeah buddy!!

It will happen, no matter how good you get, 'cause you always want to get better.

The sim is the ticket, an hour on the sim is like a week at the field, can't beat it.

I'm with JeeUm on the profiles, that's what I use to learn new manervers...still learning...then I go to my Showtime, and finally my bigguns.

My suggestion for unlimited practice is EPP foam planes period. I gained the most advancements when just being alble to fly and not crash/rebuild syndrome. I now fly in my basement with a 24" wing span EPP plane I built, , I use to get frustrated with my shockys every time I hit something they exploded into pieces. Here is a good source for EPP planes. Hope this helps, Oh yeh dont disregard the sim, great tool!!

The extra 3d is nice, but check through the list there are alot of them. On a smaller scale this on is good for begining in 3D.

Stick time is the best teacher!!! As well as going out and flying!!!! I learned on a sim over 1 winter, ditched the sim! Went out and started flying, never looked back!!! I pick up a sim once in a blue moon, to keep the rust off.... Anyone with some WD-40, I need some here!!!

Man, I gotta fly!

Chris~
