Fellow Giants: The tuning on my engine (JC Engines Area 51) is now quite close to just right. With that said, I can work on my flying instead of worrying about what the engine will do. Today, I was working on my hammerheads, IMAC style (I'm a pattern guy). Coming from my right to the left and at level flight and 1/2 throttle, I throttle up to 100%, wait about three seconds, pull up gently, get her vertical, 1/2 left roll so I am now looking at the canopy, ease off the throttle all the way to idle while feeding left rudder, she's coming down, 1/2 right roll, up elevator to get her straight. My issue is this: my plane won't go straight up without giving a little right rudder. Do I not have enough right thrust, or is this something I must deal with? I understand right rudder at take-off due to physics, but during vertical??? I have not modified the AeroWorks engine box, the only thing I have done is place one washer behind both left stand-offs to get more right thrust. It executes an acceptable knife-edge, I have to feed a little up elevator to keep her straight. Throttle is close to 100%. It seems to be smoother that way. Sorry for the novel... |

Correct, more right thrust, it also sounds like you need a little up elevator to rudder mix to hold it straight in knife edge.

If you 1/2 roll to either direction on the upline, you are looking at the belly not the canopy! Also, as the next poster said, you need to mix a bit of appropriate elevator with the rudder. Another thing that you might try is to mix a bit of right rudder to the throttle so that on your upline you stay perfectly verticle! TDD

I hope I understood what you were saying. If you pulled, wings level, and your plane tracks to the left, right thrust will be required. But, it won't track straight forever.
