Lots of practice on the sim. It took me about 3 months non stop practice to get a small line going then about another 2-3 months to get it at a constant. Now it's just something that comes naturally. Keep practicing.

A rolling harrier is hard....YES! Here's the easiest way that I've taught several people at our field to master the rolling harrier. The first common mistake is that people try to tackle both the elevator and rudder inputs all at once. So, we are going to take this out of play. First choose a way you want/like to roll (Left or Right). Once you do this get on a simulator and try these following instructions. 1. Patience (Rolling harriers don't happen overnight) 2. Reduce the throttle and add elevator to put the plane into a harrier 3. Once in a solid harrier begin to roll the plane and use ONLY ELEVATOR to correct. 4. If you lose altitude you either are behind in the timing or you need to increase your throttle to keep it from stalling. Get the throttle pulses down. 5. Master this first stage 6. Once comfortable getting the plane down on the deck doing rolling harriers with only elevator, so we can move to the rudder. 7. Get in a high alpha knife edge then just like step 2 reduce your throttle close to stall, but this time we are going to use only rudder input instead of elevator. 8. As you roll the plane in a rolling harrier DO NOT USE ELEVATOR use ONLY RUDDER. 9. Practice getting the timing of the rudder input down along with the throttle input. 10. Master this just like the first stage 11. Incorporating Elevator and Rudder. Since we know how to do a rolling harrier with just elevator and rudder we know the timing points and where the throttle inputs are. All you have to do is incorporate the two together and practice on the sim until you can do this with confidence before getting down low on the deck with your real plane. A few tips: I prefer to use more rudder than elevator because it keeps the plane in a nice angle while rolling and it looks better than when you use a lot of elevator. Once you have mastered rolling your natural way (Left or Right) try to roll the other way to really impress people by switching rolls in mid-roll. The only difference between a straight line rolling harrier and the circular rolling harrier is timing. Remember to be patient and in no time you will be rolling like a champ. ![]() Here's a video of me doing some rolling harriers and 3D: http://www.flyinggiants.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=37091&sort=1&ppuser=9003 Last edited by wc524; 02-15-2008 at 09:59 PM. |

Its all about the left stick when you master the rudder rolling harriers come with ease. Also try doing a slow roll master that and not only will rolling harriers come torque rolls and othe awesome 3D tricks will come. remember left stick.
