It looks like to me that they were trying to go around to the left, but were going to fast. I'm sure the throttle was pulled back by the time you see the plane. The sound was added in. I've heard the original vid and they pull back throttle just as the plane comes into view.

I read the full accident report some time ago about this. It was for a movie but things went wrong. I can't remember where I read the report though.

I seem to recall that this footage was in a documentary about some guy travelling around the world and visiting various places and interesting people.

Unless my memory serves me wrong (and it might, I saw it a long time ago), the pilot and the traveller had been drinking quite a bit then the pilot decided to go for a fly -- with the obvious results.

I felt kind of sorry for the guy -- I think the plane was his livelihood and he stuffed it up for some jerk making a budget doco.

I wouldn't. True it's sad that he stuffed a plane, but if you're dumb enough to get hammered and go fly an airplane, you deserve what you get.... That's assuming the drinking part is true.
