 |  Prop Question - "The Fix"
Anyone have a landing where the prop slightly strikes, but not even enough to stop the motor. When you eyeball the prop it looks fine, but upon further inspection, you notice a hairline crack. You have to put a ton of force to bend the prop back, and when you do it exposes the small split in a top layer of the prop. Has anyone just slipped some CA into it, and rebalanced the prop? Is this cool to do? I realize the stresses a prop goes through, but sometimes I just hate to loose a prop for a tiny little split. Give me examples of the GOOD and BAD of doing this please!

Don't know if the CA would work, or not, but can you imagine what would happen of the prop let loose in a hover, 10 feet off the deck? Or worse yet, running it up on the flight line. Maybe a new prop is the answer...can you say 3-blade for Mr. Rogers?

I've seen what happens when you lose a prop blade mid air on a 3W 150 that was pulling a H9 Ultimate. Luckily the plane came down in one piece, but nearly every glue joing in the thing needed glue reapplied. It made a real mess of a plane. The departure of this blade was cause by the spinner coming loose and as it came off got caught in the prop. Do yourself and others around you a favor and just buy a new one. It's not worth the risk of throwing a blade, espically on the bigger stuff. Neo Out!!!! |

I've CyA'ed the crack, and no issues. Just re-balance, or check the balance, and IF it needs it, then re-balance. Ohhh, this is on WOOD PROPS ONLY!!!! Chris~

I decided to make this one a test prop, so I was twisting it, and bending it.. and no breakage. I also slapped it on my ZDZ 50, and ran it up to around 7000 rpms, for 10 min... 1 piece, no sweat. So i think I'm cool... rock on CA!!

I would continue to re-inspect the blade. A crack or delamination can re-open or re-appear after it has been repaired. I wouldn't like to take any chances with an expensive plane or the people around the plane just for the sake of saving $50.

Just broke a 28 10 on my hand 2 weeks ago...... GARRETT MORRISON glued it right up and Ive done about 10 flights since then with no issues.....incedentally I hear alot about DA's customer service but have never experienced it but I can say something for cactus aviation......my 3W 106 kicked on me and 3W just released a new ignition that will not let it kick and Bobby sent me out one and a brand new 28 10 to help cope with the pain!!! NOW THATS CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!
