| High Desert Hucker ![]() | Well.... the Edge is rebuildable.. with enough work. So any way, I was flying along happily when all of a sudden my 50cc Edge goes into an uncomanded right roll. It took full left aileron at 3d deflection to get the wings level, but then I found I had no lift and only thanx to full up input with 3d throws at the last minute I was able to avert total destruction. Damage to front end and landing gear plate will take the most work with some minor wing fix and recovering. So the story is... my right wing servo (Futaba 9451) failed and slams to full up deflection on my right aileron, which explains why when I had to throw the left one full up to level it, I had zero lift. Stangest thing any of us have ever seen. Switched it over to the servo lead for the left side which was working fine and the servo still did this, so I know it was not a radio issue, and the battery (NiMhi) was registering at 6.47 v with a 500ma load. Anyone else had a servo do this and figured out why?

| Pro Pit Biaatch ![]() | A freind of mine had that happen a few times with some 8611 servos on his ailerons, and another guy had it happen with an elevator half. In both instances the servo just locked in full deflection. I had something similar happen but it was intermitent and turned out to be a bad motor. I does happen...

| Roller Coaster fanatic! ![]() | I had it happen before, except it was stuck down on the aileron. It came in very gracefully, and was slower than a walking pace. It turns out that the servo gears stripped, and a tooth got jammed up in the gears, causing it to freeze up at full throw.

| Patriotic Liberal ![]() | I agree, sounds a lot like a stripped gears. Servos hardly ever fail by moving themselves to full deflection. Also, 500 mA is not enough load for checking batteries. Use 1 amp for best and most consistent results. In fact, in high load planes (bigger than say a .91) I use 1.5 amps.

| Bad-ass Super Contributer! ![]() | I use 9451's in my Colombo Anderson 38% Extra 300L for over 3.5 years and never had a problem with the servos. I actually have most of the people in my area hooked on them because of the low price, high speed, precise centering, and good torque. Never seen on fail in a way you described. I actually think they were one of the most robust servos I have run to date. But I will also say, I have seen pretty much everything fail in this hobby and they always fail different. | High Desert Hucker ![]() | So... this is the weird part.... Pulled the servo out and hooked it back up. Turned it all on and the servo went to the "full deflection" point again.....but.... apppears to operate normally from there. It looks like it adopted a new center point !?!?! Problem is it did so mid flight.... Dont know what to think but will probably be buying a new 50cc airframe because of it. I have yet to pull it apart and check for any gear train issues.
