Default Re: Turbine jet crash in Taiwan

I understand that in Japan there may not be much open land for flying; and that the flying field in question was established prior to the development around it......but I don't understand why anyone would fly a turbine airplane (or 30-40% gas for that matter) that close to all that development. It's just not a good decision to do that even if it was "approved". Somewhere there has to be some common sense.

This sort of thing concerns me. I can see public opinion of us change overnight, with resulting regulations, if there was an accident like this in the states. It could have been worse; at least no injuries or fatalities.

I remember about 25 years or so ago a spectator was killed durring a demonstration gone bad inside a football stadium. Did the pilot have authorization for this demo? Yes. Was it a smart thing to have the demo? NO.

In the end if we want to continue flying without the FAA or some other government agency breathing down our backs we better police ourselves, and exercise some common sense.

That would be my 2 Cents....

Jim

I'd hate to get the bill for that wreck!!!! Especially as he's paying for the building etc... Since he's an experienced pilot, I would think that he had some kind of airframe/radio failure. Has he said anything about what failed and/or what radio system etc?

That is just a stupid place to be flying that jet. I don't blame the pilot I blame the people who put the apartments and the flying field in such close proximity. But I do agree it's an accident.

wow. thats pretty crazy. I can't believe that the building didn't fall...... i thought that when planes hit buildings, they burn the metal core structure which results in frame failure. I guess that only happens in the states.

I too was waiting for the building to fall. Must have stronger steel there in Taiwan.

I would think a full scale Boeing 767 would carry a lot more jet fuel than a model turbine...

But you have to remember the buildings are smaller in asian countries. So it would take less fuel.

If this happens in the states expect an Increase in your AMA Insurance policy dues. Maybe even a monthly payment. LOL
