I hate to see a family member (a real one, as well as FG family) lose a new bird. Sorry for the loss, but the best thing you can do is get another one ready to take its place. They all crash, yours just short circuited the process a little. What is next?? |

Throttlestick, I'm very sad to hear about your loss. Any crash is bad enough, but a crash on the maiden is a real heart breaker. I was wondering what kind of receiver you were using. My Futaba receivers have a tight-fitting plastic cap that attaches over the crystal to hold it in place. I was just wondering if I need to tape over this cover as well. I've used Futaba for about 25 years and never had a crystal pop out. Please don't take this as an argument for Futaba or against any other radio brand. I know there are other brands just as good or better. It's just that, since I only use Futaba, I am not familiar with the design of other brand receivers, so I don't know if others have this same cap over the crystal or not. Just want to make sure that the same thing doesn't happen to me if there's anything I can do to prevent it.

good question BigJ. The caps are excellent, but many receivers don't have them. Also, gassers are vibrating machines and it is just a safe practice to put tape over them anyway. Even on my foamys I put tape over the crystal just in case... even though it is a little cheap GWS receiver. My receivers with the plastic cover are excellent and probably will never come out, but I am too scared now to chance it. Just in case.... |

| Damn JR radios!!! Sorry for your loss...... If they would fix a few of there long standing issues I might buy one and try it out, But I have seen about 4 birds go in due to the crystal ejection system that seems to be built into there reciver's, Hell one of them had tape on it and it stll came out....... sorry to hear about the yak, i had a similar problem with a 44% extra i had took off flew a few laps then all the sudden the plane got sluggish wouldnt turn the way it was supposed to. landed and discovered 1/2 of the plane was dead. was running 2 recievers (luckily the throttle was on the second reciever) after looking inside saw crystal laying in the bottom of the fuse, all i can say is im a firm believer in splittin the plane up on 2 recievers
