Haven't looked at any of the other posts, but my guess is the xtal wasn't secured with tape?

Charged the radio did a range check both running and not running and not a twitch anywhere. So after checking that all was tight,no metal to metal, all extensions secure, bolts tight ,fueled up,no binding, good batteries, all was good and she was ready to fly.
Now I am always a little shaky on the first flight of a new model trying to get a feel for her. This time was no different we ran her up pointed her down the runway and off she went.Boy was she sensitive to inputs so I threw the rate switch down from mids to lows and all was good. Now time to get her turned around and check out her stance on the first fly by I could tell where the sensitivity came from she was tail heavy, not unmanagable tell heavy but just enough that I would have to change some things around when I got her home.No big deal at all.
I also noticed that the engine was a lillte rich in the mid range once again no biggie. So I kept flying around for a few more laps and decided to bring her in . I banked her around and head back to the other end of the field to set up to land.Well in the middle of the bank to turn around the engine rolls back to idle.I quickly notice that I am in PCM lock out and start praying that she will come out.I throttle back and then forward several times trying to get something to happen.Nothing she just kept on headed for the ground in a 45 degree downline on her left wing and then smack no more plane.
Three 8411s wasted, brand new 3DUB 80 with pitts muffler wasted, three brand new lipo packs bye-bye, one new never flown 33% Yak WASTED!!!!!!!!!

Now for the quiz boys. Can anybody tell me ,that was not there or or was told by someone there ,what I did not mention in the list above?
I know better and have preached it to over and over yet the dumbass in me just could not remind me to do it.
Take a few swipes at her boys and lets see who is paying attention.

Sorry for the loss, I have one in the shop now waiting for engine to arrive. Last Sat I went with a friend to purchase a kit built Edge 540 that had never been flown. The Edge was setup as close to perfect as any I have ever seen, dual receivers, dual batteries, 3W85 twin. Maiden flight, after about ten min of flight, pilot made the banking turn to line up on runway and then nothing. What really made the crash really bad was the pilot's wife was there to watch the maiden flight. Exam of carnage- crystals out- missing- gone. JR receivers also.

hey all you J/R flyers with 30% planes and up take 10 seconds and a 5 cent piece of black electrical tape and tape those damn crystals in this is the second post ive read and the second costly crash ive seen in the last 10 days due to not taping them in. I had it happen to me on a 44% extra but fortunately i got the plane back. i have mixed emotions on setting failsafes for this reason, if the crystal falls out on a downline your done !!!! i had no failsafes set and fortunately i was able to land with half the plane operational, and with dual recievers and if you have a choke servo setup split it up throttle on one reciever and choke on the other, this way when it comes time to land and u lose the reciever that was working the throttle you can kill the engine with the choke servo.

Its fine to set the failsafes, just set all channels, not just throttle. I set all channels to go neutral. If I actually used two recievers, this would help in a one reciever lockout situation. Id definetly would have helped me with the big Yak at the Nall.

Jeez that sucks about your crash. At least other people reading this will hopefully learn from what happened. I read a post last year where the same thing happened. Needless to say I tape all my rx crystals in with red Tuck tape. The good thing about Tuck tape is it will never let go. The bad thing is it won't come off.
Keep your chin up dude.

I do like John said, set all failsafes to neutral and the throttle to kill.
