Default 33% Edge PCM Lockout......... Bye Bye Edge

Well Guys you can see that the Edge is no more, We went out for a unbelievable Jan day to do some Serious Huckin, Sean Mc Murtry and I and a number of other buddies spent 1.5 hrs at the field trying to get the edge dialed in more precise, We finally got it done and proceeded on flying the piss out of the bird. I was on my last flight of the day and called a buddy of mine that is a very accomplished pilot over and handed over the controles......... He flew around, Hovered, TR, KE, Etc.. and proceeded on chasing some birds out of the way, We all encouraged it as it was pretty darn funny, Once he was done playing with the birds he turned to bring the bird back across and the Bird Locked up in full right rudder, full left aileron, full up elevator and you guessed it full power, Death spiral straight into the woods . Now this is just after it had been flown multiple times very hard and proved to be in good working order, He had absolute no control over the bird as it went down, Once we got over there to the bird the elevator and rudder were working fine...??????????? Obviously the rest of the bird was mash meat. Anyhow We got the bird home and removed electronics, Everything test out fine. I am flying Jr with PCM. I'm Lost as to what it was, the only thing we can think of is momentary frequency hit from a local tower or something in that range.. Well here is the couple of pics I ended up with from my phone. Later Chris

Dang Chris,

I'm sorry to see that. It sure was a pretty bird.

I'm not sure how you had your failsafe setup, normally the surfaces won't lock in full throw like that. I sounds like the battery connection worked loose, I don't know...

Damn...

What I want to know is why you would set your failsafe's to full throttle?

No battery connection failed unfortunately, Plus if you lose batt to your RX the fail safe doesn't work anyways. Here is the deal, We have had a few instances where guys have lost there bird and it went into fail safe and crashed into a house. I don't want to be one of those people so I chose to set my fail safe to dump the bird instead of fly it. During the dinking around of the bird we replaced the throttle servo, When we went to start it up we realized it was reversed so we changed that and proceeded, Once the bird was ready to fly Sean handed me my TX and I flew, We forgot to reset the Fail safe to the new servo so when it went into fail safe it went full throttle instead of chopping it. I just don't know why it went into fail safe.......... Besides the fact that I just lost my bird, Maybe 1500$ worth, I feel really bad for my buddy, It was totally not his fault and this is not the first time something like this has happened to him, I just feel bad for him.... I tried to joke about it as much as possible and ease the feeling for him but I doubt I succeeded. Anyhow Time to find a new home for the 85 twin... That is after I get it fixed Later Chris

Sorry about your loss. (Felling you pain) I lost a 34% a few weeks when she flame out in a 30' hover. I ordered the Planes Plus 34% extra the very next day after the crash and got her up and flying as soon as possible to sooth the pain.

I was thinking more of an momentary power loss. I sure hope you get it figured out, the problem is most of the time you never find out where the glitch came from.

May your Edge RIP.

We looked at that but I had to pull the deans connector apart to get the batt out. It was in full lock position. Like you said The worse is not knowing what did it. Once the Burn Band lifts its a bon fire for shure!!!!!

I had to same thing happen to me last fall with my 34% CA extra. I have no idea why it went into failsafe. It range checked fine and flew fine all afternoon before it happend. Luckily for me the damage wasn't too bad and it is all repaired. I hate radio problems when you can't figure out why it happend. Good luck

Sounds odd to me that the control surfaces went to full deflection in failsafe mode...

You sure someone else on you frequency didn't turn on their Tx momentarily and shot you down???
