Sorry for the plane and I'm guilty of the same thing (not using the board when its just a few people that I know) But you cant expect him to buy you another plane. If he had the pin then you were on HIS channel.

Yea, I use to fly by myself all the time.Sometimes I would get lazy and not put up the pin. It was funny when I was up in the air and I saw someone pull up and take their planes out. I would haul butt to get my plane back on the ground before someone shot me down. LOL...... I quit doing that now. It wasn't worth the risk. You have to use the board even if no one is there when you take off..... RS |

This flying field is very seldom used...we were flying by ourselves on Saturday, like we usually do...no one shows up but us! What were the chances? Good enough I guess...should have bought a lottery ticket on that day. I'll have my pin on my transmitter every Saturday and no one else will show up ever again...but I'll be safe! Albert. |

Bottom line is, if there's a frequency board, use it. It is there to show what channels are being used, if you don't show which channel you are on, how is anybody supposed to know. The frequency board is the means to communicate just this information, nobody is obligated to communicate this information in any other way. You can only blame yourself and you should be angry at yourself for disregarding the established safety procedure. It is entirely irrelevant that you were the only person there when you took of. If you're not the only person on Earth you have no way of knowing if anybody else will show up.

Thats the hot ticket!!! Keep in mind though... having the pin only assigns blame to the non-holder.... In all my years of flying, I have NEVER seen the Shoot'ER reimburse the Shoot'IE for damages.... though it has never been a friend who was the shoot'ER... always been a stranger or visitor who shot down a buddy.... sorry again dude!!! Good lesson for all of us if its not already.. I unload my planes, then go get my pin, Then fuel and fly. Get the pin, get the pin, get the pin ![]() Sorry for your loss but sometimes we all learn the hard way. Myself included. |

I think this goes without saying. I can't tell you the number of times I have been at the field with one other person etc when several people walk up. The guy walking up is probably only going to check if his frequency is available. If he asked you it would be great but for you to count on that is foolish. For all he knew, you were flying on a HAM frequency. Again, sorry for the loss but if you didn't have the freq pin there is no one else to blame but yourself.... |

for this reason when i turn my rx on i watch the planes that are in the air. I would hate for some one to lose there plane even if its there fault. this is just a precaution i take and try to teach all who i train. Most of them are to eager to get going to watch the other persons plane when they turn there rx on i cant plame them this is just an extra precaution. It is still not his fault tho all the way around its abad situation.

I fly in the evenings alot when I am the only one at the field and no one else is coming. I still always pin up. I used to laugh at myself when I left and pulled my pin and I was the only one there. I won't laugh at myself anymore.

Exactly what I do, when you turn on look up at planes and look for someone in trouble, its not hard to spot, actually its pretty obvious when pilot starts holding tranny in air running for model. To give someone a lesson in frequency allocation systems by crashing there model is a bit harsh even if non intentional, also safety especially if large planes are in the air for it might be your bad luck if one comes at u while your in your own world turning tranny on. I'm the only person on my channel in my club but I still use the board. You never know who could show up!Sorry about your plane. but you can't blame a guy for not looking at the entire board. He went for his pin and it was there!!

I was at the field with my "new" King Kobra, getting ready for the 6th flight. One of the older gents had just stalled his plane into the trees and was bringing it back when I realized he was on my frequency and had the pin. I let him go on with the usual explanation as to what happened for about 10 minutes before I asked him for the pin. After getting the pin, I noticed he still had his transmitter in his hand and was still going through all the excuses he could think of while talking to the picnic table pilots. My first thought was, "maybe I should ask him to impound his transmitter before I go up", but, of course, I didn't want to offend him by treating him like a newbie, my mistake... I take off, make a 180* down the back line, set up for a Cuban 8 and BAM!!! My plane goes up for a second then straight down at 3/4 throttle, spinner ended up 6 inches in the dirt. I put my head down for a second then turned around and saw "the man" standing over his carnage with his transmitter trying to figure out why his plane went in... I started walking toward him and decided taking a walk to find my plane was a much better idea, I'd probably still be in jail. In the end, he helped me retrieve my plane and we came to a monetary agreement for my loss. One thing I've learned, it's rarely the newbie that shoots someone down, they're still doing things step by step, it's more often the veteran that gets complacent.
