Yep, I'm kicking myself hard for this one...I haven't put a plane in for a long time, and this one wasn't in my control to crash, which is the worst scenario... 1. I have a frequency checker, I check for TX's that have been left on sitting on the table or in the car...it has happened. 2. Looking up when turning on the TX is always a good idea, I'm always weary of any interferrence, even on different frequencies. 3. Everyone is ALWAYS out to get you! If I think of it that way, then I'm quite vigilant. 4. Verbal confirmation with every one at the field is always the best backup since we're human and people make mistakes. TX impounds are rare, so it also gives me a good idea of who's on what frequency so I know if I have to share the pin or not. These things are why I am shaking my head about the "incident." Now I will treat the frequency board the same whether people are there or not and will continue doing the things I always do when other people are at the field. Thanks for your comments and opinions, it is good to do a reality check once in a while with other experienced pilots. Not too many of those around these days at the local field it seems. |

| Dude, everybody hates to lose a plane but, the bottom line is, you have no one to blame except yourself. Start taking responsibility for your actions and apologize to the guy that had the pin. |

I believe he already is taking responsibility for his actions, and I'm sure it will be handled the next time he sees the other gent at the field

I'm very happy to see that FlyinTiger read, absorbed, and learned from all our responses. I see again and again, somebody making a mistake and never changing their mind or perspective of their actions. It appears to me that FT realizes his mistake and will make changes to the way he operates at the field, power to you FT. I do believe in oral communication at the field as well, but most often it's just between myself and whomever I may be sharing my channel with, and I make a point of informing them of the value of my plane.

Yep, I was glad he posted the incident so we all could be reminded how easy it is too lose a plane by our own mistake, or mistakes by others. I truly believe in his posting this it probably saved a few more planes going in! Thanks for posting it Flyingtiger! Chuck |

The biggest reason I have learned alot is the great guys on this site usually know the reason behind the crashes and will be the first to admit their mistakes. You guys rule!

Today we took down the frequency board for some TLC. Here are the "Before" shots. This is what the board looks like when no one is flying. Pins are missing, broken, and pooped on. The nice slots there in the plexiglass are the right size for an AMA card...nice way to let everyone know who has the pin...but that option rarely gets used. Most guys just stick another brown clothespin up with their name hand written on it. After the paint dries, I'll post some "After" shots of the improvements. Jeanette PS - yes, it is me posting this time...not my husband. |

Here's the newly improved frequency board. You now have the option to leave your AMA card or if you put a pin up in place of the one you take down, it is noticeably different! We have tried organizing a field work day for this Saturday, but my husband and I are the only ones signed up. I love how there's a lot of complainers, but no one likes to back it up. Jeanette |

The other guy followed the procedure and assumed that you would do the same which is a reasonble assumption based upon the fact that it was souly your responsibility to have the pin in your possession. I don't know how the other guy would be at fault at all. Tom |

Interesting that you guys have pins that you pull OUT of the board to indicate your on frequency. Here in Aus we have a frequency board that is empty. If you want to fly you have to put your OWN frequency key in the board, normal convention is that it has your name and freq printed on it. Not a foolproof method of frequncy control as it still requires human input. However turning up at the field and seeing two guys flying but no keys in the board at all is quite obvious. Two guys in the air + tow keys in the borad = all sweet. |
