Default Extreme Flight vs. Aero Works dimensions

Does anyone know why there is a massive difference in the fuselage length of the 50cc Aero Works Yak 54 and the 50cc Extreme Flight Yak. The Extreme has an 88 inch wing while the Aero is 85 so that accounts for some of the difference. However the Extreme fuse is 86 inches vs. 73 inches for the Aero. I assume this is mainly a design difference for aerobatic performance, is this correct? The only other factor I know is that 73 inches long on the Aero is to the cowl, no spinner. I don't know if 86 inches on the Extreme is with or without a spinner. From a performance stand point does anyone know which airframe has the upper hand? My guess is the extreme but performance is relative to ability.

The main reason I ask is that I have a limited amount of space in my car to haul an aircraft of this size. The Aero Works should fit for sure and the Extreme just might if it is easy to take off the rudder and I pull the prop and spinner. Which on that not the Extreme Flight Extra might fit as well doing the same. The other option is to go with a 50cc size bipe like the Aero Works Pitts Python. Any other 50cc bipe suggestions other then the Great Planes Ultimate?

Well with a Bipe you also have to have room for the two wings but on the yak 54 stand point that littel bigger size (from my experiance bigger flys better) the 85'' wing span of the aero works yak 54 means if its same weight as extreme flight yak 54 then aeroworks will snap out of mauvers more because of less wing area and weight.

I've got the volume for the extra wing and the fact that they are both 1 piece, however I believe my max possible length with the passenger seat down in my car is around 84 inches at a diagonal and depending on various other factors of the fuselage all 84 inches might not even be usable. I have a Mazda 3 five door. The other option is just strapping it to my roof which I might consider on a day with no fore casted weather issues. Thanks for the info.

I have owned both...still own the EF 88" Yak. The EF Yak dwarfs and out flies the AW Yak. It is almost as quick to put together. I really liked my AW Yak until I got the EF Yak. It flies lighter and actually performs better on a DA-50. Plus..Both planes really need to have tuned pipes to perform well with the DA-50. The AW does not have a tuned pipe option and the EF Yak does.

I just realized that I'm crazy. I had measured my car dimension before with the front seat folded but when I did it, I went straight back from the glove box to the back of the hatch door and got about 84 inches. By going at an angle and at a rake there should be more then enough room for the EF Yak or Extra with the prop still on, as long as I take the stabs off and put it in rudder first. Now I just have to full fill my agreement with my wife before I can get one.

I'm looking at the new EF Extra 300 but instead of a Da-50 Im going with the Evolution 58 with tuned pipes the extra power is needed at my 6000ft altitude

If you can fit the EF Yak in your car, then get it over the AW. It flies much much better. I own the EF Yak and I've flown a friends AW Yak quite a few times. I owned the AW Extra 260 and I really liked that too. In fact, I liked the way it flies more than their Yak. The AW Extra was much more precise.

Now that I know the EF will fit in my car the AW isn't even a consideration. But the EF Extra is mighty fine looking as well.

if your wanting a ultimate. you might consider the wildhare 29%. i have one and it flys great you will love the way it flys. you wont like taking off spinners and the tail feathers to transport the EF. i also have one of those and it too flys great, although mine is the 87 inch. i never take the tailfeathers off, but iam not restricted for the need of room. its no big hassle to put the wings on the ultimate. just takes a few minutes, while iam charging

I'm not too interested in an Ultimate, but would be interested in a Pitts S2 or a Challenger. As for the flight surfaces on the EF did the original 87" have the removable stabs with the servos mounted inside the ends? I agree taking them off would be a pain if the servos were in the fuse.

yes it does. the servos stay in the horizonal stabs, just unplug the servo, and remove 4 4x40 screws 2 per side. its still a pain to me because you have to use a longer extension as to keep the connector at the rear, for access. now for a long trip or something that say 2 or 3 people were going on and the room was needed then it would be a different story. dont get me wrong i like the servos in the stabs instead of on the fuse. much cleaner looking
