It's time to mount the motor. Depending on which motor you're using you may need to use the provided spacers. I'm using the Tougque 2814T/820 which does not require the spacers, however if you use the 900 you will need to use the spacers. If using them go ahead and glue the two spacers together as well as the on thin fiberglass shaped spacer. The fiberglass spacer will be used on the motor side of the spacers. Locate the 3mm socket head bolts supplied and mount the motor. Be sure to use a drop of blue locktite on each bolt. You'll also see that there are laser cut baffles supplied. Chris and I flew without the baffles at SEFF, that was the warmest weather we have flown the plane in so far and we had no problems, however if you are flying in extreme hot temperatures be sure to keep an I on things and istall the baffles if you feel it's needed. They'll mount directly to the motor box as you'll see in the instruction manual. This is a good time to install the speed control as well. I'm using the Airboss Elite 45 amp control on my planes. Mount the control under the motor box with velcro or a zip tie to allow plenty of airflow over it through the opening in the lower front area of the cowl. Attached Thumbnails

Mounting the cowl is very fast and easy. Get some masking tape (I used blenderm) and stick it to the sides of the fuse so it extends out to the mounting tabs. Use a fine tip marker or pen and mark the ceter of the tabs, then partially pull the tape back and slide the cowl on. Slide the Extreme Flight 52mm spinner backplate onto the motor shaft and use that as a reference to center the cowl properly. Once everything's lined up stick the tape back down to the sides of the cowl and use a 1/16th drill bit to drill a hole at each tab location. Remove the tape and cowl at this time. Before you screw the cowl on power up the plane and make nsure the motor is turning in the right direction. If it's not, just unplug two of the wires and plug them into the opposite wires. Now you can screw the cowl on with the supplied wood screws and mount the prop and spinner also. Attached Thumbnails

Next step is cutting the cooling hole in the bottom of the fuselage. Locate the the laser cut opening in the bootom of the fuse near the rear of the canopy. Use a fresh blade for a nice clean cut, then use an iron to make sure the edges are sealed down. Attached Thumbnails

Since the canopy will be removed removed every flight a piece of pre-cut vinal is included. Locate this in the graphics package and cut it out. Apply it over the latch area. Attached Thumbnails

If you are using the SFG's you can mount them now, They mount using two large head wood screws with plastic washers, these are also included in the kit. Insert the screws through the holes in the SFG's and screw them to the wings tips. I recommend removing them just as the instructions say and wicking some thin ca into the holes, let it dry then re-install the SFG's. I have well over 100 flights on the EXP's and have flown them both with and without the SFG's, either way it's the best flying plane in the size that I've even flown. Attached Thumbnails

Ok guys, that's it for the build, one thing I didn't say but is mentioned in the manual is be sure to install a velcro strap to hold your battery in place. The final step would be applying the graphics, the kit includes a full graphics kit and it really sets off the looks of this plane. Here's a picture of the inside of my plane, this is the battery location I'm using also. It flies pretty neutral at this location, yet is still very precise with flying precision. I'm using flight modes in my 12X, three rates on a single switch. First one is precision set exactly to the manual guidlines for control throw, mid rate is for regular 3D with around 55-60 degree elevator throw, and the third rate is the same as the mid but full 80 degree elevator throw. Be careful using this much throw at first as it is really only good for certain maneuvers like extreme tumbles, super tight knife edge spins, completely vertical dropping parachutes and elevators, super tight waterfalls, etc.... Mine came in today .. thanks Curtis ! I have to say that you gotta see one of these to really appreciate how nice the kit really is. I'm an engineer so I'm pretty anal and this thing has some cool features that make even the most critical happy. For instance, who hates when the plastic canopy cracks just aft of the turtle deck bulkhead ... I do. Chris has you covered. There is a small plastic doubler to beef this up and prevent that. In addition, clever uses of carbon and G10 help improve durability and save weight. Another cool thing I noticed ... who hates removing covering from the cutouts in the wing and fuselage ? I do .. and It's already done for you. It actually done very clean! Also, you gotta check out the tail structure ... pretty slick and very stiff. Lee, I got the smaller motor (-900) with mine ... have you flown one on that power system ? I'll post some pictures of the maiden soon ! -Johnny |

The 900 with a 4s is only about 10 watts less than the 820. I used the 820 because I had it in a Vanquish. I have seen it fly on the 900 and I cant tell much of a difference if any.
