I've just ordered a 330. Plan on using a axi 2208/34, jeti 18 speedie. Hitec 55 servos. I have 2 1050mAh 3cell packs but I think they maybe to big for it. What do you guys think?

rusty, im using an AXI 2208/34 with tanics 830mA. i was using a 12A ESC but it stoped workin for some reason, im gonna re-solder all the wiring joints, if that doesnt work, then im going for thunderbird 9A. i think your batteries will be a little too heavy, plus im getting about 15mins with 830's anyway. try to keep it light as possible if your planning on doing any indoor flight, like even smaller battery packs for example.

I have had the edge and the superstar.
The edge always seemed to fly a little better for some reason.
The superstar flew good too. I have tore up the superstar countless times and repaired with CA.
I really did a number on it this last time though (got into a fight with a soccer goalpost..... goalpost 1, shocky 0)

I will probably fix up the edge again since that airframe is still in decent shape.
Next new one will definately be the Yak.

Thumbs up Re: shock flyer planes..........

Interesting thread on Shockeys!

I've built scores of these things (yeah, addicted!). If you build them perfectly straight and keep them light, with light components, they all fly well. I do a bunch of mods that are aimed at reducing overall weight, but add strength (took the ideas from the pros at the JR electric-meets, especially Scott Foster). My setups for indoor flight:

AXi 2204-54 motor
Phoenix 10 controller
Dymond 4.7 servos
9-4.7 GWS prop
E-Tec 450ma, 2-cell Li-po
Azar's mini-antenna
CF lattice on fuse for strength (discard triangle stock)
1/16" ply reinforcement (with lightening holes under the nose)

Target weight for Extra, Superstar, Edge should be 4.7 ounces max (less battery). The heavier it gets, the faster it will need to fly. Yak and F3a target is 4.9 ounces. For indoor flight, a setup with an AXi 2208 and HS-55's is way too heavy, IMHO. All these aiplanes are a blast - keep em light and move the CG way back!!! My favorites: #1 F3a and #2 Superstar. Hope this might help somebody out there!

Hipollito!

Here's a couple of pics of a Superstar (let me know if they don't come through). Note the 1/16" balsa doublers underthe nose that butt up to the leading edge - and also at the trailing edge. The Shock Flyers are notoriously weak in the nose. This adds only a tiny bit of weight.

The thin CF rods add an amazing amount of stiffness to the fuse. Manuevers are a little cleaner. Thanks to Scott Foster (and others) for this idea.

The firewall is as described on Hobby Lobby's website, only I use lighter 1/16" ply.

The real key is keeping it super-light and using a tiny motor like the AXi 2204-54 with a small 350 to 450maH 2-cell battery. This is a great indoor setup.

Hope this helps .... Dave K
