Hi Moose, here is just a couple of suggestions: The key to a great fly'n foamy is weight weight weight.. If the manufacturer say gross weight is 7 1/2 oz it is best to keep that plane as close as possible. i have the best results with 8.5oz or under( complete with battery). To answer your question both the Hacker 20-34 and AXI 2204-54 are both high turn motors and would perform best on 3 cell lipos. Use the smallest mah you can to conserve weight. I use TP 2 cell 730 and 480 mah batteries. My planes are mostly 7.5 oz with batts. I also use 15 turn motors with my 2 cells and get awesome power to weight ratios, in other words unlimited vertical.... if you own the AXI 2204-54 that would be great with a 480-730 mah 3 cell lipo. I use the CC Pheonix 10amp speed controls with everything and if you get the link adapter( via computer) it is a breeze to set up. Hope this helps and there are alot of theory's but this is just my recommendations and have had awesome results!!! Good luck and safe landings!! |

moose, Yes, good choice for the Hacker a20-34s. Your lipo would be fine but it would be better if you could get something a little lighter for indoors but if thats what you have then just go for it. For esc i would definitly go with the castle creations 10a. I bought one a few weeks ago and its my favorite of all times, because its light, and its easy to program. The Hacker controler would be fine but the weight would be a little heavier than a castle creations phonix 10a, Even though a friend of mine tried it before, he said that the noise was a little louder but it worked out fine. Again good choice on the motor. I actually just picked one up myself yesterday for a echelon biplane foamy.

I have none of the things that I listed but am trying to put out the order tonight. I have no idea where I can buy the titanic batteries from and am really getting confused with 2S and 3S......you guys are going with very low amps....isn't that directly proportional to flying time.....I would still need an hour to charge them but would get like 7min of flying ??? Is what I am saying making any sense. Conclusion so far is to order the Castle creation speed contro;;er and the Hacker motor.....Batteries.....mmmmh 2S ...3S.... Can you guys actually get 8x3.8 props or are you using the APC 8x4 ?? I will be using HS-55 servos and a hitec micro rx.. I really appreciate your help guys.....I have been so caught up with my gas planes I know very little about electric ! |

yes, you could get 8X3.8 props. I use them all the time. GWS makes them in the gray or orange color. But yes we do use apc 8X4 props too. Ok, so if you get an 3s you wont have a very long flight with it but you would have more power than a 2s. 2s will give you more flight time than a 3s, but not as much power. But you dont need too much power for indoor flying because you want to fly as slow as possible, but you still will have plenty of power. Tell me if this helps? If i was you i would get a 2 cell because you will be able to fly longer and its lighter for indoor flying.

I never owned a Hacker 20-54 but checked there site and it has a high kv 1500. They recommend a 2 cell lipo, so for instance if you were to put it on a watt meter( astro flight) and with an 8-4 prop and 2 cell lipo were pulling 6 amps full throttle you could run a 730 mah batt for aproximately 10-15 minutes with throttle management. so amp draw times 1c = flight time. I use GWS DD 8-4 and 9-5 props so you would be fine with the 8-4 that you have. Plus it will be less of an amp draw. Hope this helps!!! John C. Oh yeh, here is a link to combat wings. they are an ebay store and I have bought several pheonix 10s from them for 38.95 plus a few bucks shipping. This is the best price I have found though they are curretly not listing the 10's send them a email via there contact seller on this page. http://cgi.ebay.com/Castle-Creations...QQcmdZViewItem |

This isnt a shock flyer but very similar in the building and set up procces. If you want to do it the way i have it in my plane then it will be stronger and better. But it will be more difficult to do then buying a red motor mount from you local hobby shop, and mounting the moter on it and gluing the mount on the front end of your plane. Here are some pics to make it easier....
