150-200 sycles is many hours of flight time, i have some friends that compared electric/ gas, after one year they have more flight time, less maintanece, and lower cost with electric setup, mainly setups for 50-60cc conversion with 10s Lipo. It will take some development time befor one can see same think with more powerfull electric setups 100-150cc conversions, but its getting closer every day ![]() The plane and powersetup is all sposored, testing prototype equipment and see how it works with 15s Lipo setup, ofcorse its expencive its all new tecknologi, maby in a year one can see what the actual cost and performance will be. Just a few years ago a 10s setup, 3kw motor in a 2m plane was very exlusive and rare, now its reality for many hobby flyers. Last edited by Joacim; 07-27-2006 at 03:57 AM. |

The setup will be 12S Evo Flightpower, 3700 to 5000 mAh depending on the weight in need in the front. I calculated all parts and got to the point that i have to spent 100 Euros more for this than with a DA50 setup and ca. 150 Euro more than with a MVVS45 setup. The big difference in money when comparing gasser to EP does not show in this size of planes (up to ca. 50-60 cc gas). Those differences show up when you got to 35% and up because of battery prices. I am used to setups from 100 to 1950 Watts atm (as you can see in my just uploaded Vid's; have a look at the glider!), so this 3kW setup will be a kind of "next step" again for me. As far as i am using LiPos, i can say i had no problems at all; mainly using Kontronik and Jeti ESC's, Axi and Kontronik Motors and Kokam and Evo Flightpower batteries. Gas engines, i am "only" using for the big birds like my 40% Super Decathlon because of the difference in money like stated above :-) Best regards from Leipzig / Germany de Frank. | ||||||||||||||||||

I've converted several 27% Hangar 9 Extra 260's for not too much more than it would cost to outfit them with a DA-50. They perform excellent, don't need to be tuned, and have gobs of power. With the new Hyperion batteries that can be charged at 2 and 3c without any degredation, It's suddenly becomes very feasible to fly almost as much as the gas guys. I'll take that trade off for: No clean ups, virtually no dead sticks, No tuning, no hand starting, and very consistent, linear power. Here's my setup Hyperion Z5035-18 2x Hyperion 6s 4350mah batteries in series to make 12s Castle Creations 110HV ESC 20x10 propeller Tru Turn Spinner It pulls 26 amps average, makes up to 2200 watts, and has 8 minute flights with plenty of room for reserve. I usually fly 6 mins for two sequences then do a pretend dead stick landing just so I stay in practice. That takes about 2600 mah out of the pack. If you use the new hyperion 1210i charger, to charge at 2C to 90% capacity, things move very quickly and efficiently. (I do leave my car running because my little dodge neon tyco battery cant charge both batteries at 2C to the end of the charge without going below 12v at the end of the charge) Josh |

Last year i flew the plane 3 times... first ESC probblem (softwere needed further development for 15s voltage with the predator) got me a new controller from Jeti and worked much better on static test runns... but then, my radio died on me !? have no idea why, and same time ALOT of mishap happend, car got stolen and so on... now im getting back on track again, and will try to get me a new radio to continue to test and fly the 15s Katana setup, and hopfully puch the motor more maby 10kw+, maby also some other motors, future will tell ![]() its nice to see now that the 15s Jeti and Kontronik controllers are ready and selling, already, one can read on the webb with planes and setups from 12-14s 28-35% scale with nice performance, also in "little" Sweden there are some awsome projects on the way for summer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpSZ-9HA0ZA |
