Default How do you charge your lipos??

What is an effeciant way to charge lipos? I have been using a 12 volt battery that I use to start my glow engines. Should I use a car battery or a motor cycle battery? Or stick with what I have. How whould I charge the car or motorcycle battery? Thanks!!

I run my charger off a power supply I got at Radio Shack ( corner of Branham and Almaden Exp. ) I fly at Tomcats most of the time so they have 110V there but if not I use the car battery.

I have a couple deep cycle marine batteries mounted in my trailer for when I am at the field and to charge my large airplanes that stay in the trailer. To charge those batterys, I have a car battery charger that I run out to the trailer with an extension cord. I have been investigating using a solar power supply to charge them though. When at home, I use a 12v power supply I got from radioshack.

Could you directly connect the car charger to lipo and skip the step to charge the marine battery first?

You cant hook the charger to the lipo, no. You shouldnt hook the charger to the Li-po charger either, as they are not designed to work that way. You would want a 12volt power supply to hook directly to the charger.

Armon;
If i hadnt seen how a LIPO explode I probably wouldnt have answered you. But please be very careful. A LIPO battery must be ONLY charged bt the appropriate charger that is exclussively for LIPOs not any other charger. Plus, Your LIPO charger must be supplied from a 12V DC source. This source could be a car battery that is 12 V or a Power supply that can be connected to your electricity supply and outputs 12V and must be capable of giving atleast 3 Amper current. and comes the most important part. You MUST know how many cells your LIPO has and adjust your charger accordingly and again VERY important you must know the "C" rate of your battery and adjust the Charge current on your charger and MAKE SURE it does not go above this rate. and PLEASE Do not leave your batteries out of site when you are charging them. I have seen it what it does and could burn down a house easily. Dispite the fact that they give us fun but they can be Lethal. In fact i am now trying to move away from them where i can and stick with NICAD or NIMH batteries.

I am sure you know these but i thought i share my experience with you.

Good Luck

Reza
