We are talking at our club: and we are starting to have some rules and regulatons followed by the AMA. We are a AMA field also. What are some of your rules on Non -members flying but have AMA cards: How many times a month or year, etc. they are allowed to fly. Some rules to be followed by members. EVERYTHING we come up with we have complaints. These don't want rules they just want to fly!! We understand this. But we know if we don't have rules our field will be abused and become out of control. and possible lose it. Ang suggestions will be appreciated!!! |

Dude it all boils down to common sense. I've seen clubs make up 5000 rules and those clubs suck. And I been to fields that have no rules and they suck too. I'd run with what AMA has to say and very little else. If you have to have specific rules for your field like noise or no flying on Sunday until after 12PM or what ever do that. But keep things as simple as possible. Another biggy is not letting folks on either side of the fence on this issue get carried away. Committees=politics (most of the time.) I would do this; at a club meeting find out what field specific rules you need to keep the neighbors happy. Get those, add them to AMA's regs and that's enough!!! Keep it simple to understand and simple to comply with. CLubs who operate like this have a far better chance when officers change of maintaining continuity. The club president changes every year or two but the rules don't. Simple and very easy to keep everyone on the same page. Above all else use common sense. Use as few rules as you can SAFELY operate your club and EXPECT members to cooperate. Safety, simplicity and common sense should be the battle cry!

Biff is 150% correct . You can have 1000 rules and and 1 person ( read idiot ) can screw it up . I've found it's as much as having rules as it is enforcing them . If the rules are enforced equally no single person can complain . As far as non-members using the field, we encourage them at the polo fields . All we require is that they have current AMA and leave the field in the condition they found it ( or better ) . BTW Biff : I love your new hair style |

| Our club doesn’t have any written rules about non member use. We encourage someone visiting from out of town to make themselves at home during there stay. For local guys we encourage (putting it nicely) those on there second visit, of using the facilities, to be a member when they show up for a third. This does not include special events. We have a couple non members that show up year after year for our open house. IMHO two visits of flying, is more than enough of a try before you buy. Any thing beyond that just isn’t fair for those that do help pay the rent and keep the facilities in top condition. |

i agree with everybody else on this issue. keep the rules light, no one wants to enforce them. at our field anyone thats out of town and has ama is encouraged to fly. but for the local guys that dont want to pay and think they can abuse the flying. we put a 3 time a year flying without being a member. except for events as long as they have ama.

We call them "Field Regulations". AMA's 'rules' are IMO very reasonable. Osceola Flyers Flying Field Regulations Flying Field Regulations The following rules are for the safety of all members and guests. All flying must be done in accordance to the Field Regulations and it is the responsibility of all club members to see that these rules are enforced. 1. Current Academy of Model Aeronautics Membership (AMA) is required for flying. 2. Operation of Model aircraft is restricted to members in good standing and invited guests. 3. Guest may fly up to 3 separate sessions, must have a current AMA card and a club member must be present. 4. Spectators are welcomed and must remain in designated area behind pits. 5. You are responsible for any actions by yourself, your guest and your children. 6. Pit area is restricted to pilots, owners, and/or crew members. 7. There shall be no taxiing of airplanes through the pit area. 8. There shall be no flying over the pit, parking, and/or pilot area. No flying permitted behind the imaginary line running along the near edge of the runway. 9. Flying permitted within a 1000 foot radius from the runway (front and sides not behind runway). 10. Cars should be parked in the designated area only behind the pits. 11. Mufflers are required on all aircraft engines on .10 CID and above. Mufflers must be an expansion chamber type. No straight pipes or flow-through types permitted. 12. Pilots must stand in from designated pilot area. 13. Pilots who are landing or taking off have priority over others flying. A pilot should announce to other pilots when taking off or landing. 14. No more than (4) fixed winged aircraft and (2) helicopters allowed in the air at any one time. 15. No transmitter to be turned on for range check, equipment check, or flying without the proper pin attached. (2.4 . will require a revision to this one) 16. All beginning pilots must fly utilizing the buddy box system. 17. No flying of an aircraft in an unsafe or dangerous condition or with a questionable radio system. All aircraft are subject to inspection. 18. Alcoholic beverages are strictly forbidden at the field. 19. Pets must be on a leash at all times. 20. Anyone flying in an unsafe manner shall be subject to grounding. 21. Helicopters takeoff, landing and hovering must be conducted from designated area only. 22. Flying must be in accordance to the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) national model aircraft Safety Code. 23. Flight hours: Monday - Saturday: 1 hour after sunrise to 1 hour before sunset. Sunday/Holidays: 12:00 noon to 1 hour before sunset. (our local restriction due to County Commissioner's controlling ego) |

Allowing an out of state visitor to fly during his stay (1 week to 1 month) would be considered a courtesy. 2 visits per year for a local flyer seem reasonable but more than that would seem freeloading.

DUDE" is still there - but many of his cowering supporters have moved on. There is hope for change in our field restriction! What really ticks me is how many times I've been woke up on a Sunday to the sound of mowers, edgers, and blowers. AS IF.....
