Maybe this should be another thread, but what really bothers me is the unsafe things that flyers do at the field. Like starting engines behind the safety lines, taking off across the runway from the taxiway, etc. It seems that the ones most guilty are the often times the officers and long time members! They preach safety, safety, safety, and then ignore it themselves. If someone else were to fly like they do, they would probably complain. At one of the clubs I use to be a member of, the Secretary started up his plane in the pits, taxied it out onto the runway, from the pits, and then while sitting on the tailgate of his SUV, proceeded to fly! He was nowhere near the pilots station. DANGEROUS! At another club, we have some flyers who like to fly the glow screamers and get their kicks by flying by at 120 mph about 5 feet off the ground right down the runway. If you are standing next to them it can be very unnerving. They may be excellent pilots; however, if a receiver failed, or a servo quit, they could kill someone. I fly giant scale aerobatics, and when one of them comes to the line, I just come in and land because it just isn't worth getting hurt. I always try to keep my aircraft 50' on the other side of the runway and at least 50' above the ground, unless I am landing. Seems right. Flying fields are too hard to come by to have one lost because of a tragic accident that could be avoided. |

My Career has taken me across country twice, and I've experienced living in 5 different states....East coast, West Coast and in between. Been a member of 6 different clubs, becoming the president of one of them. Each one had it's own set of problems and politics that are very similar to the Posts discussed on this thread. With that said...I still enjoyed being a member and I will cherish the memories that I have, But nothing could prepare me for the "Club from Hell" that I was invited to join last year!! Several of the Giant Flyers put on a demo at a Private club in a Very Rural town close by....it turns out, the Co-owner was a former member of the Club I was a President of...at the end of the day, he approched me and asked me to join their private club. Its a beautiful site and I agreed. Several Saturdays later I brought my 100 bux and Joined.....Little did I know, that day...the Co-owners Son was going to bring his 7 yr old Son, 4 hunting dogs and a few rifles to get ready for hunting season....He's not a flyer. There was only one other pilot flying at the end of the day, and I was putting a maiden flight on a small electric, My trailer was behind me about 50 feet with my assembled 35% bird setting behind it...All of a sudden....4 dogs come charging across the field and were making a B-line directly at me!!! They circled me, jumping and barking!! I tried kicking them away at the same time trying to fly this airplane... I hear the owner tell his 7 year old son to get the dogs....I'm yelling for someone to get these dogs off me....Next they decided to run around my Trailer and as they did so, I managed to catch a glimpse of my 35% bird getting spun around!!! I Was FREAKING Out!! The Dogs owner headed to another Part of the Flying site and never made a real attempt to control his dogs...I managed to land, and the dogs, along with the 7 yr old are Still Running around my trailer!!! I was polite at First....Managing to get the Dogs owners attention...but he was busy and did Nothing!!! I finally Asked if he could afford to replace a 5000.00 airplane and it got out of hand from there. We both got rude...and I was told to pack up and leave. First....I did not create the situation....I simply reacted to it.. Secound....Being a Land Owner does not give you the right to Endanger, Damage, or disrespect anothers Property. Could it have been handled differently....I suppose it could have, I never used foul language, even tryed apologising to the "Hunter" for raising my voice and losing my Cool hoping he would do the same. The worst part...I handed the Club Patriarch 100.00 that morning...The "Hunters" Dad....and asked for it back via a phone call a few days later.....I was asked why I started Hassling the "Hunter"!!! and for that...I won't be seeing my money!! This incident still doesn't sit well with me as I think back on it, Live and learn...I now "test fly" new club fields I plan on Joining to get a feel for its membership and facilities, and NEVER....Never join a Privately run Dictatorship!!! |

I agree that most clubs have at least one jerk in their ranks, I'm going to have to ask you guys to do one thing for me, please don't list those members by name. If there are more than one of you from the same field, I'm sure you all know who you are talking about ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for understanding ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I used to belong to a club like everyone is talking about. All they did was complain about everything, your plane is to fast, you came across the middle of the runway when nobody was around, you did this, you did that. So I said the hell with you guys and didnt join the club the next year. Now I fly at a field that is an hour away from me but is one of the best fields around. We all have fun there, nobody complains to anyone and they welcome the big, the fast, the ugly and whatever else you can pull out of your car or trailer. Pretty much one rule that everyone sticks to and that is DONT HIT THE HOBBY SHOP!!!! And every Saturday we all jump into the shop van and head into town for lunch and have a great time. And what is funny about the clubs who like to complain it is mainly those folks who hardly ever fly.

We have a guy at my field. . somehow he actually became club president for a year. He LOVES big, expensive airplanes, especially with smoke, and he'll fill the smoke tank and fly around all day long putting out long streams of white smoke at full throttle. . and NEVER do an aerobatic maneuver ! ! Last year he planted a very pretty $7000 Pitts (think it was the Exclusiv Modellbau version) because he was trying to fly it inverted, under the tutelage of a very good Unlimited IMAC pilot who lives near me. At a height of about 100 feet or so he was doing an inverted turn, with the pattern, then got crossed up and the plane started to dive. . so naturally he. . . (you guessed it. . ) PULLED. . . I'm glad he has the money to cover those mistakes. . he is very entertaining. Sad. . but entertaining. And do I care if he reads this . .not really. So. . the 50-50 rule has it's place. . mostly to protect the GOOD flyers from the truly awful ones. We are having a Spring Fun Fly on the 21st . .I'm gonna go out and RIP IT UP. . right there in front of the old fogeys and wannabes. Twill be a great time.

wow, i thought i had it bad. i have had problems by 1 AND only 1 memeber, all the other memebers sort of idol me, lots of them have been comnig to me for 3D flying tips. . before i could 3d i had a tiger 2, one of my favorite trainer planes. nd i had almost 20 flgihts on it, and was getting better, was flying around, a 1/3 scale spacewalker comes up, and imf lying my circut, he coems around and just devours my plane to a few pieces(partially my mistke, my planes descended on the turn). so im fetchnig my plane, he coems down and lands. after i come back he telles me, " next time im in the air, you better not come up" said ****. so i like watver. now he comes back with his big planes plus extra, and im like nice plane, and he starts acting all cocky. so i ask him when hes gonna fly it and hes like in a month or so. 1 YEAR later he still doesnt have it flying. He coems up to me, and me and my buddys are complimenting eachtohers flying, and he coems in and starts talknig about him self, and then tells me i land TOO fast. im like, wat the he** i land to slow, (ive stalled lots at that time). and i just walked off. now beggining of jan. 07, i post up a thread on my clubs site asking about the BCMA 52 engine cause i was thinking bout gettin one. and he comes in all talkin about why i shouldnt get it, and started makin false accusations on stuff bout it and why i shouldnt be the guinea pig. i didnt tell him this, but when DA first came out OBVIUOSLY there was a guinnea pig to try it out for the first time. i came so close to jsut telling him to F**k OFF. but i chilled and jsut left it. later on i was at the field, and had a jittery rudder, but i went u, flew it, it was good, no problems in the air. went home, and i guess someone told him i had a rudder problem, and he send me a private message tellnig me about why did i fly with a rudder problem (and the thing is, the safety officer was at the field at the time of the rudder problem, and he gave me a thumbs up to go ahead and fly). the guy that keeps complaining trys to be the best, heck, ive been a member for less time than he has, and i can do on the deck hovering, he cant even bring his god damn ARF plane out. sometiems those people just tick me off so much.harv

I was chatting to a safety guy at a local club a few weeks back (A SERIOUS KNOW IT ALL) He was having his first few flights on his new 28% wild hare. It was dropping a wing with his heavy handed elevator inputs. He was chewing the fat about right-hand side thrust n latteral balance. I asked him how he'd set the C O' G and he replied "you dont have to do a cg check on a plane this size"??? I was amazed!! I checked his c'g and it was nose heavy as hell!! Such muppets aint gotta clue. Im sure not gonna fly near the guy ever! As if manufacturers of full size dont consider the C'G. Im guessing the dude has never flown a bird with a serious rearward c'g?
