It always worries me that the disgruntled flier or the flier that gets banned from the field due to their "antics" and unsafe behavior will come back to cause more trouble. One club I know of was threatened by the person that he was going to sit down the road with his frequency checker and his synthiesized radio and pluck fliers out of the sky. Some people are relentless.

Servo wasn't responding. So only rudder. So about the almost leagal situation. There was a real piper cub flying over the lake so as I was coming in the plane was right in my path. So when I used rudder it did 2 knifeedge like circles around the fuse of that cub. I nearly just died on the spot. I had everyone at the field on their toes. So I was able to land the plane in a tree after overshooting the runway. Only damage was a hole in the side of the fuse. I didn't know what to say after that. I tell you what, I check the Cg about everyflight now even if I don't make any changes.

We had a member get his lawyer involved and threaten legal action if we didn't let him back in the club. We voted him out of the club at a general meeting due to his behavior at the field.

The last few times I have been to the field in Chino (it has been awhile) there is one guy who flys a race track pattern for 20 minutes (seriously). He always takes at least six flights, so he is in the the air for at least two hours.

He expects everyone to fly in right hand circles. I know this because I got tired of him griping that I was doing aerobatics in too close, I tried flying in nice big, high circles just like him. All was ok until I decided to be a rebel and fly in nice, big and high circles to the left. This was unacceptable to him -- we all have to go around the lake in the same direction.

I need to point out that the "aerobatics" that he complained about consisted of loops and cuban eights (I never got below 100 feet or in closer than 100 feet). I wasn't even flying one of my giant scale planes.

The moral to the story is that some guys are jerks and you can't coexist with them. Either that, or don't be a heretic and fly left handed circles.

I wanted to add a bit to my post above.

At 47 years old, I still show the old guys at the club the same respect I would have as a boy. I have enoumous respect for folks older than me. When the old guys are at the field I fly way out and up high (still under 400') and no 3-D, because I know they get "concerned". Therefore, when I'm doing back-flips to get along, I really get annoyed when some guys can't be pleased.

As far as A-holes go, kill em' with kindness, I always say.

Nothing gets a Yahoo more frustrated than to be overly kind to them, no matter how hard they try to bait you.

Our field would be a barren desolate soccer field, if not for our club. We have made improvements that have impressed the Forest Preserve to the point of them considering showcasing our field.

We never turn anyone away, and help all those that want help, to those that don't, we point to the rules and tell them they are not negotiable.

We have our share of non-members that fly at our field, and history has shown that they almost always donate after they have a good experience, and enjoy the friendly atmoshpere.

Our "Flying Geezers" , that is what they call themselves, donate and help at the field, and even though they are a harsh peanut gallery, if help is asked fr , they give it. Along with sage advice and a showing of stubbed and mangled fingers!!!

We had our share of A-holes, but they are long gone, because people who care are at the the helm. Because..................

You gotta kill 'em with kindness...(and if that don't work, a lesson that my USMC drill instructor taught me will.).

What is it with the rest of the world that the majority of people who seem to have a grip on reality are the "Ex-marines"?? lessee. ..Biff, Boss, Me, AirborneSgt (I think) and others. . . hmmmmm

Just an observance.

At some fields I have visited you are suppose to fly a pattern in the direction of the current LANDING APPROACH- which will change from day to day - you know - the opposite way from which the wind is blowing that day?!
IMO- The dude if fundamentally wrong and this should be an easy confrontation to resolve- since even he will fly "out of his pattern" to land on some days.

Now, keepin' the discussion civil with the guy - may be another matter.
Good Luck

I just thought of this. Do you think that if we complained enough to ama that they would just take control of the fields.

How, with AMA cops?? ROFLMAO.

Our AMA club runs our public field, enforces the rules.......

But, we are not the Forest Preserve Police, and can only ask people to follow the rules , and our only recourse if they refuse, is to call them.

Private fields exist so they can Completely control ALL the rules and be exclusionary if they want.

Fat chance of them giving up control to the AMA.
