Help! How do you keep the Grouch happy?

Ok, it's been about 6 months sense the field I fly at got closed down (trca). After finding a new field (significantly farther away than the old one) we were able to talk to anyone nearby and tell them about what we do and what kind of noise will happen. Everyone except for the grouch living in a trailer was alright with it. He wants his peace and quiet, but the insinuation is there will be no ability for us to hold competitions at the new field if he keeps this grudge.

If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Atleast at our field that is practically impossible. He is an old fart that thinks he owns the field. He's made a non member area. And non memebers don't get the chance to use the safety equipment. Or the parking lot. But that's at our field.
You might be able to get enough people to force him out or just to make him deal with it.

What we did with a local resident was give them free membership, and an invitation to come out and learn on our club trainers. Also free admission to any of our events and free food. It may be a lot of free but it can go a long way in keeping someone happy. Invite the guy out to take an intro flight and maybe he will see how cool it is!

Tell him that your club needs help and would like him to be the new prop stopper.

That's the best advice I think.

Good Flying sites are getting harder to find all the time.
Be kind to him and try to find out what HIS hobbies are. Learn what makes him tick. Trying to befriend the fellow might be a better option then something negitive.
Who knows, this might have been where he moved out to live in the peace and quite 50 yrs ago.
Be respectful, and ask him to the field to visit.
Shaun

This is a good suggestion. At are field we are always cooking burgers and other good food for fly-ins and meetings. The food would even bring out non-fliers at my old field to come and watch. We haven't said anything negative to him yet and there is still ample opportunity to do some 'attitude improvement'.
