Have you discussed this issues at any of the club meetings or with any of the club officers?
I believe in the near future that is what will be happening!! I have some stiff competition!! Our club president is a well known scale pilot that has been to many top gun divisions!! And won too!! I might add!! All the retired guys look up to him like a god!! any suggestions????????

Enthusiasm is contagious. Show some, especially to the newer members and it will catch. There is no substitute. Share and show as much as you can with them. Not just about what you are interested in, but everything you can speak well about. They may be enthusiastic about other areas than you but it does not matter. Excitement is excitement, no matter if it is DL gliders or 40%ers.

Find strength in a buddy at your club! For some peopel this is just a hobby, and only fly for a few hours and then go home. They dont make meetings and leave all the work to others. But to some of us in this hobby is a part of are life. I live breath and sleep (Aviation). I am a member of a small club (20 members) and hold two titles in office, plus Instructor, Mower, recruiter, peace keeper. My best friend HoverVT works just as hard as me in our club, and it is frustrating to us too see the club not growing and only a hand full of helpers. But we find strength together and keep it going because we love this hobby. And to my other club members that read this , I do appreciate all the help that I do get in are club ! Thanks

I left my old club in SC. They were spending 90% of the fee's on grass cutting and the place needed some help. A snapper mower can be bought for $500 and then we could start building the site back up.... but no..... they had to have it their way. I dunno. It's a shame what a club can't do for itself.

You could never be anymore true!! I have no problem with other division of aircraft in the club but when you only have a few in the first place and they dont care it is kinda hard to keep pushing!! I am in between planes now!! but i plan to get a 35% or better aircraft!! I am trying to get the transportation for it first!! I plan to spend alot more time in the hobby!! thanks for the input!!!

Well we have a fly in coming up!! What do you guys think I should do to make this fly in better than the times before!! the rest of what few guys that fly say that they would be satisfied with breaking even and not making any money for the club!! I am fine with that!! My real question is how can I step in and make this fly in better than the last couple that we have had with only 30 pilots that show up!! Our field is huge!! and we have quite alot of space for parking for pilots and spectators!! The spectators seem to really take interest but here again the pilots just dont seem like they want to put forth the effort to help!! we usually have a large # of spectators show up!! Any suggestions!!!!!
This is kinda what it feels like!!

aarthur, I am 24, I fly 3d and the "old guys" at our club hate it. they also make up about 80% of the membership. the key is to get some friends who want to make a change too. get ready to take the abuse because it WILL happen. your club sounds like ours. they are set in a groove and will not change unless forced to. you have to have people on your side at the meetings to vote in your favor or you will never get anywhere. Run for Vp to start, get some allies and then go for pres. when your pres. you will have the old guys nagging at you for awhile but they'll get over it. just be respectfull and listen to everyones opinions. they are members too and if you try and dismiss them completely you will make many enemys. best of luck to ya I know what your getting into!!

To make the fly-in grow you must promote it, It needs to in the ama magazine. When you go to other fly-in pass out flyers, even send the flyers to the hobby shops and the clubs around your area. The thing is all it takes is to get a couple of guys behind you and you can make a difference. It can be done, It may some time to get things changed, But if you work at it it will happen, ounce the changes start, and club starts having fun you will even see the olds guys get into the act.

Could be worse... You could be a member of a club where the officers are bent on "my way or the highway" and take great pleasure from screwing with the paying members... I'd take ambivalence any day...

If your club has officers then you need to get the old officers removed. We are trying to find ways to get rid of the officers at our field because they aren't fighting hard enough to make our club better as well. Like the condition of the field and what not. I don't know. If you have friends that will help you that fly, that would help. Maybe if the demand for better conditions might improve the field members.
