Yea, the maiden was pure joy.
Best flying plane I ever flew ! She just LOVES to fly slow.
Not a bad landing for the first one.... I'll work on that.
However, on the second flight, I started to wring her out a bit and after a pretty hard snap roll something was wrong.
Couldn't tell what but the controls were weird so I tried to land and could not control enough so I flew out to try again and the problem seemed to get worse and worse.
Tried a second time to land and could not and flew out again.
Then the plane started to veer over towards 46 and I watched it plow into the trees.....
OR so I thought......
By some MIRACLE, the plane snagged a tension line that crosses 46 to support the power poles on the north side, and was found by the search team to be hanging quite securely from the top right wing.
The wire was nestled right between the top wing center section and the aileron.
Made a few calls and after a lengthy wait, A good ole boy from FPL came to the rescue.
I met him at the site and asked "So... can you help me ?"
He said, quite 'matter of factly'... "HECK YEA, why you think I'm here ?
He went up to assess the situation and looped the rope around the LG and the prop, tied the rope to his bucket and raised her off the lines and lowered her down to a nervous waiting papa....
Didn't charge a thing, just said "Better luck next time, Have a good day"

She needs a new bottom right wing, 2 new interplane struts and maybe the top right wing. the aileron got wasted when he unhooked it from the line. I might can repair it OR use the aileron from the bottom wing, it is intact.

Could have been a LOT worse..... She'll fly again.
Thanks again to all my buds at SAM for the help and kind words,
Enjoyed lunch.... Missed ya Homer ! You

Jim

Jim,

Sorry to see that happen.... Make sure you get that beautiful plane back into the air where it belongs!!!

I just saw a short clip on WESH channel 2 of what's coming up on the 11:00 news. It was an RC plane that landed in the highway, but they didn't say where. It looked to be a 6'-8' wingspan crop duster. Nothing on their website. Stay tuned.

Thanks Scott. I really appreciate it. I kind of got in to RC and photography at the same time. I love doing both. Anytime there is an event here locally, I try and make it out to take pics. I wish there were more events around here like Top Gun.

Scott nice pics. I was going to come out Sat. afternoon, but the little problem at the field kept us a little late. The turn out seemed quite large with a good representation of quality models.

Got the parts ordered from Chief Aircraft today.
Got the aileron all repaired and waiting for the Microfill to dry for sanding.
Will repair the strut tabs tomorrow.
Wheel pants the next day.... etc.
If the parts come in on time and I can find a servo, she will fly again this weekend !

Programmed the Velox on the 9303 2.4 last night. Changed out the clunk line for insurance and charged up the batteries. Put some fuel in her and fired up the 3W 150CS. Just a few flips with the choke on, a quick pop, took the choke off, four more flips and the engine just sat there purring like a kitten. I forgot how quiet and smooth that 3W ran, the cannisters definatly do their job. It still rips the 32x10 Biella prop on the ground. I love the power of those 3 Dubbs.
