Just to add some input I heard....The gentleman at my LHS, who is a fantastic heli pilot, said in his opinion that FS One was a little too easy to fly for helis. His opinion was that the planes were a little more realistic than G3.5. I know this is secondhand info but I trust his opinion so take this as you will, hope it helps. I bought FS One today so I'll post my findings when I get it up and runnig!!! :-) |

I can do things with the helis on FSone, that I can't begin to with the other sims. G3.5 seems pretty real for helis almost harder (which is a good thing) and AFPD is right with G3.5. I have heard that Reflex is GREAT with Helis, and is almost right on the money.

thanks for the info guys. Right now its looking like G3.5. I like the playing online option and the multiplayey, and the availiability of planes for download is pretty impressive. Still not quite sure though.

To be honest... Just get the one you like. All the sims will help you with your stick reflexes. None of the sims are real enough (in my opinion) to be able to just transfer everything you learn from the sim to the field. BUT... the stick time you put in will help your muscle memory... so you react appropriately when your real plane does something. JUST Do IT!

well I just ordered G3.5. I got a chance to fly both at the LHS, and It seemed like FS one had a slightly more realistic feel, but other than that G3.5 was more fun to fly and the graphics seemed a lot better. I had no trouble hovering harriering etc on either one, so it should still be really good practice even if it isn't quite as realistic as FS one. Basically I got it because of multiplayer, graphics, split screen, eye candy etc... thanks for the info guys

If you DO get FS One, be sure to get it with their Tac Con controller, or one of THEIR brand of radios. I fly my copy with a Tac Con often, and it's one of my 5 favorite sims. But... I just set one up for my Dad for Christmas and tried to use his Futaba 7CAP with the interface... I've been calling support and posting in their "suggested" forums for weeks now, and still no solution... If I only had one wish, it would be that all of the major sims would come out with a demo to fairly represent their product on any given hardware setup. The advice to "get whichever one you like best" is really the best advice I've heard in a long time... but it would sure be nice to be able to try each one out and decide which one you liked! -Case

Any of the newer Intel Macintoshes work great... avoid the Mini because its video circuitry is integrated and shares RAM which will kill most of the sims out there. I've not tried a Mac Book (the base model, not the Pro), and I'm afraid it will have similar problems as a Mini. The current Mac Book Pro, iMac, and Mac Pro lineups, however, work brilliantly with all of the major sims out there. I don't want to start the Mac vs. Windows debate here, but the one tip I've found most helpful is to keep your Windows installation on your Mac as "clean" as possible. Basically, do everything you can in MacOS, then when it's flying time, re-boot into WinXP where your sim(s) are installed. Don't load the WinXP partition down with any more software than you need to... Mine was a clean boot camp installation of Windows, followed by all WinXP updates, then add a modest AV/Firewall software (I use PC-Cillin), load up your sim, and fly. The ONLY software installed on my WinXP partition is a full install of WinXP, PC-Cillin, G3.5, AFPD, ReflexXTR, Phoenix, FSOne and TiVo Desktop. There's been a fair bit about all of this written lately, but searching these forums for "mac" gives nothing because 3-letter words are too short... Searching for "iMac" gives LOTS of results, but most of them are NOT about Apple MacOS computers! Hope this helps. PM or eMail if you need a hand with any of the basic configurations... -Case

I'm using a G5. Love this ma-chine too! I don't think I would attempt this software install. Thanks - Apple care is worth the $$ if you ain't a computer geek. ( no slam intended) |

Gotta admit though, I'm a G3.5 fan just because of all of the extras that keep you interested in using it. | ||||||||||||||||||
