Thumbs up G3.5 and Vista... how I got it to work....

I've been using RealFlight since version 2 and of course had issues on XP in the beginning. Thatr all worked out andI have always found the Nvidia cards to work well with RF 2.0 and 3.0 to 3.5 on my older computers. So I went with a Nvidia 7600 card just to play it safe with the new install on Vista. After going through several versions of video drivers 2 motherboards and a test install of XP all on the same computer I began to think my problems had nothing to do with Vista getting in the way of G 3.5. If it ran on XP before why not no? VIDEOCARD! I pulled the 7600 card bought a 7900 and Badda Bing we are in business. Now for those of you that haven't tortured yourselves with computers as a hobby let me melt this mess down and pour it out for you. Most all Nvidia cards use the same drivers. RF worked for me on a 5200 card a 5900 card and now a 7900 card. The 7600 card used the VERY same driver as the 7900. RF 3.5 locked up in a very short time on the 7600 but has run perfectly for a week on the 7900! Why? I can't say since I don't know it just does and that is all I need to know. I hope I can save someone this 2 week fiasco to get to this resolution!

First I would like to say anyone out there that is buying a new computer, DO NOT PURCHASE IT WITH WINDOWS VISTA. The program is terrible right now. I just returned a computer that had Vista installed. It is not copatable with anything and takes up twice as much memory that XP does. It will however be a great operating system in a year (but not sooner). Also, once you install Vista on a computer you can't install XP again. If you do, you may as well just buy another computer.

GallopingGost- I had the same problems that you did. I installed 3.5 on my new laptop (w/ XP proffesional) and it kept shutting off right in the middle of a flight (saying= unexpected error occured). I new right away that it had to be the graphics card. There are a couple of ways that you can fix it for anyone else out there reading. First if you go the settings of Real Flight you can tweak the resolution from high to low as far as graphics, fields, etc. There is a list. You wont even be able to tell a difference. It is really just the small things in the backround. In most cases that will work if you have a semi-decent graphics card. If that doesn't work you have to get a high resolution graphics card meant for gaming. Most of the time you can get them for under $150 bucks.
