Hi guys, I have now the G3.5, Phoenix and AFPD, so I 'm talking from my experience. I do use all 3! I've started with G3.5, but editing airplanes is very complicated, you lost more time with the setup than with the flying itself, and I could never trim the plane properly! my airplanes always dive to the ground no matter the GC not even the down trust. But with time I could have one plane (the YAK of course) that can fly reasonable good. The graphics in G3.5 sucks! no photo scenery just computer generated stuff. Then I bought Phoenix, I didn't like the earlier versions and ended giving up the sim, a few weeks ago I downloaded the last version 1.0.4 i, what a huge surprise! With some rapid set up actions I ended with a YAK that flies so much realistic than the G3.5 one. I have to learn again how to make rolling harriers and torque rolls, these were very easy in the G3.5.. Regarding AFPD, I read so many good things of it in the internet, and in Marteen de Moor web site (he's famous videos) that I decided that I must give it a try. I have for one week now. I only tested so far the standard planes and the ones that are for download in Docinsane web site, I was very disappointed! The planes fly so unrealistically to me, they lift the ground in less than one airplane length, I can do everything with them, rolling harriers are like flying forward, and they are so easy (I cannot do them properly in real life!). They all float like a 100 gr foamy! Can anybody tell me what am I doing WRONG??!! I am sure AFPD is much better than this. From these 3 sim's, Phoenix is by far the better for now. Just my 2 cents ![]() DF |

That's very odd. Nearly all the planes in G3.5 are very easy to trim for me. They require no editing from stock to get trimmed. Of course I edit throws and expo to my own preference, but the trims on the radio trim them all nicely. G3.5 Actually does have phto scenery, they're called Photofields, and they look very nice. Even the computer generated 3D flying sites have very good graphics. I can't speak for the others because I only use G3.5. It is very realistic for my purposes. RJ

Where are the photofields? I don't have any!! Can you trim your airplanes to fly level at full power and not dive to the ground when inverted? I really can not, even with the stock airplanes... |

I have AFPD and I had to edit all of the planes that I fly on there to fly a bit more realistic. I don't edit them to be accurate numbers, I edit them to fly similar to what they would in real life. I had planes that were very floaty so I changed their weights to make them heavier. Adjusted engine power/prop to give similar performance to actual RC planes.

You didnt mention the inverted part. I never trim any of my planes to fly hands off inverted, I always have them slightly nose-heavy enough to descend a bit. However, it is very easy to move the CG back slightly. If you want to you could even make them climb inverted, but making them perfectly neutral as you want is usually very easy. Click on the Airframe tab (I believe...) and you'll see only one parameter, the CG Adjustment. Move it a bit at a time and it should work well. RJ

I tried to move the CG back until the airplane become instable, but it always dive to the ground inverted. Do you want to exchange G3.5 airplanes, I send you my best YAK 55 and you send me yours. I do it as soon as I get home. I'll look for those photofields... |

Here's my current favorite. It isnt set up neutral for inverted flight as you like, but move the CG back just a bit and it will be. It's just the nature, though, of moving the CG back that the airplane will get a little unstable. Give it a shot. Note: This is not my model, it is my variant of one available on the KE swap pages. I have been playing with RF 3.5 for some time now and i know what he is talking about. I can't get the plane to respond to moving the cg back. IT does make it fly tail heavy but it will never actually stop diving towards the ground inverted. I have moved the cg back for enough that the plane gets stuck if you are not on the sticks when it leaves the ground and still dive inverted.

I cannot trim the airplane to fly hands free inverted in AFPD as well, my real life plane flies hands free level and inverted, so it's possible ![]() I've messing around with AFPD, the Extra 330S with 19 kg starts to fly like a real airplane, but off course the easy rolling harriers are gone, back to earth! Yesterday I liked a lot more AFPD, I will keep setting up the Extra, but it might just have the potential to be a better simulator than the other 2. You just have to spend more time setting up the airplane than flying, but I guess this is more or less the same with all others. If you want just to have fun, then use any of the stock aircrafts, but if you want not to frustrate yourself in the flying field for not being able to do anything of the stuff you can do in the sim, one must lose a huge time in setting up the airplane properly. I will make a better judgement after the weekend... |
