| Drop it like it's hot ![]() | Hey guys just getting my edge up and going here. I am mounting a ZDZ 80 rvj. What set up did you use to mount this engine to the motor box? Standoffs, thrustline etc. Any suggestions would be of interest. Thanks PS I know there are several of you out there with this same setup so hook a brother up ![]() |

| Shake and Bake ![]() | Dont know what length standoffs you will need but just knock the factory blind nuts out and put dowels in the holes. Dont use a POS Chief mount, they will crack around the bolt holes.I'll post a few pics of a 80 rv install, the rvj should be close. The first pic shows the relocated blind nuts, The second is the choke servo, I threw a pic of the guts in to give you an idea of junk placement. I dont have a good pic, but I made a platform directly under the wingtube for the tank. I use a 24 oz and fly for 12 mins with about 1/4 to 1/3 reserve Brian ps, Vess 26a, nuff said! | Drop it like it's hot ![]() | Thanks Brian, I will do the standard mock up to see the length of stand offs I need. I have seen those plates like you were speaking if. Yeah I agree they look a little on the lame side. I will reposition the blind nuts to use regular stand offs. hey by the way what "guts" are you running in this plane? Batteries , swithces , regs, power boxes, match boxes, ect. Interesting to see what other guys are going with. There are a thousand ways to skin a cat I know. I just want to go simple and clean , not a crazy amount of redundancy. Thanks, Mark |

| Bad-ass Super Contributer! ![]() | I used the Chief engine mount and as previously stated, it was a POS. I never had a problem with it cracking but it was a serious pain in the ass to remove/reinstall the engine if need be. I also had a problem with the stock blind nut 'teeth' stripping out; allowing them to spin, hog out the firewall and loosen the engine. I second knocking them out, filling them and using standard stand-offs. Sorry, I don't know the length. It's a great combo! |

| Shake and Bake ![]() | I am using a Futaba 9 channel Rx, TBM 2-cell Li-Ions, 6volt MPI miracle switches (hey they work great so far and they came with the plane), Futaba 9206's on the wings with 1" arms, JR 8611A on the rudder (just one) with a 1.5" arm, JR 8411's on the elevators with 1.5" arms. You will need to elongate the slots in the stabs and use 1.5" arms to get decent elevator throw. I use a Futaba coreless on the throttle(cant remember which one) and a standard on choke. I dont use matchboxes or power expanders or any of that stuff. I used heavy duty "y" harnesses in the wings and get the setup mechanically as close as possible. Using H9 pro-links makes it easy to get rid of binding. I think there is enough flex in the aileron to take care of the rest, IMO. Everything else is plugged straight into the RX. After ditching the pilot and changing to a Vess, I am right at 22 lbs. I would get a carbon spinner but I would have to move batteries towards the front because it is on the verge of being tail heavy. Brian |

| Shake and Bake ![]() | Oh yea, the landing gear sucks, Get some Graphtech. And the blind nuts are too long. When you tighten them down, they bottom out on the standoffs, either grind them down or get some more or they will wallow out as AHP said. I think my standoffs are 2 3/8" so if you can compare the RV to the RVJ maybe you can get an idea. |

| Snap! ![]() | My cg is currently at 6". Seems to work for me. I added differential aileron and rudder to elevator for knife edge. The recommended setting for throws and expo work well. Check the glue joints just behind the enigine box (just behind the main gear mount). Mine weren't the best, and I've had to repair mine. The gear will hold up well if you don't make any hard turns on landing. |
